Google Nest Mini Sleep command

JohnMcGeough
Community Member

Up until the last couple of days I could instruct my mini nest to “sleep in 20 minutes” and 20 minutes later is would stop. But now it although it acknowledges the command, it keeps on playing after the time period. I have tried saying “stop in 20 minutes”  as well as specifying an actual time, but all to no avail. I have two speakers, and they both are doing the same.
Does anyone know what has changed?

Here’s what support is saying

We have been made aware of reported issues with the Sleep Timer. We’re looking into possible solutions. For the meantime, we would like you to send a feedback about this issue with the steps provided below.

1. Turn on device usage data and crash reports:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Select the device card to share feedback about.
  • At the top-right, select Settings and then Recognition and sharing.
  • Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)
    • Note: For iOS devices, turn on Send device usage and crash reports.

2. Reproduce the issue (Try setting a sleep timer). After the issue occurred, send feedback from the speaker device via voice command (OK Google, send feedback) then say the keywords "GHT3 sleep timer not working".

Hi Rapharoo,

Glad that the timer feature is working on your end. With regards to the bedtime routine music timer that you mentioned, are you talking about the ambient sound feature? Check this link to know more about this feature.

Looking forward for your response.

Thanks,

Juni

Still acting precisely as first comment. No improvement.

A fix was not rolled out. I have had issues as early as this morning. Checking the activity log does not show my alarm going off or me giving it the stop command, but shows it was set.

Hi Juni,

Sleep Timers in Routines are not working. The speaker insists that media must be playing when indeed it is playing.

Yes, all my Google Home devices will not shut off after a set amount of time anymore. This started just a few weeks ago.. Please return this feature!

Hello Juni, I have the timer problem everyone has been expressing. My problem started yesterday March 6, 2023. I have rebooted my Google Home units but to no avail. Is the problem totally fixed as expressed by reviews going back to January 23 or is it back again. Any direction you can give is appreciated.

So am I. Since November 2022!

Google where are you?

For info, I have a Routine set up so that when I say "Hey Google, goodnight" it will play BBC Radio 5 for 60 minutes. This is now working again.

Hello SimonLev, can you share your routine “Hey Google, goodnight’ with us?

 Thanks so much.

It is so wonderful that it is completely fixed now. I didn't realize how much I depended on the sleep timer until it was broken. Thanks for folks speaking up, and thanks to Google for fixing it!

Mine has been working except one time where it set an alarm instead of turning off youtube.

Tried the relaxing sounds again for the first time in a while and guess what, still broken.  My nest hub is now even getting stuck half way through the sleep routine requiring me to start it again to even turn off some lights let alone play sounds.

I had issues back in 2022. Overcame it by adding the "routine" thing so when I say "hey google.. sleep"..... google plays my sleep music from Spotify for my set 1hr. Its now May 2023 and its still working for me like this.

Mine works better, I have a routine set as well. Then all of a sudden on a random night it doesn't shut off

I tried that with no luck. The worst part is that it drowns out the alarm on the device.

I have noticed another odd effect - turning off after a specified time may not work if you are polite!

If I say "Hey Google, play sleep music for 5 minutes, please" it will say "Alright, here's a playlist called sleep" and will play forever.

If I say "Hey Google, play sleep music for 5 minutes" it will say "Got it. Playing the Spotify playlist called sleep. Bedroom speaker will stop playing in 5 minutes."

Apparently Google doesn't want you to be polite to your digital assistant 😉

Yes, they appear now to be really selective on what they want to hear. 😞

I can ask one mini to set an alarm for 2:20pm and it sets it for 8pm, yet ask another and it will set it for 2:20pm?
