Google Nest Mini Sleep command

JohnMcGeough
Community Member

Up until the last couple of days I could instruct my mini nest to “sleep in 20 minutes” and 20 minutes later is would stop. But now it although it acknowledges the command, it keeps on playing after the time period. I have tried saying “stop in 20 minutes”  as well as specifying an actual time, but all to no avail. I have two speakers, and they both are doing the same.
Does anyone know what has changed?

Here’s what support is saying

We have been made aware of reported issues with the Sleep Timer. We’re looking into possible solutions. For the meantime, we would like you to send a feedback about this issue with the steps provided below.

1. Turn on device usage data and crash reports:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Select the device card to share feedback about.
  • At the top-right, select Settings and then Recognition and sharing.
  • Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)
    • Note: For iOS devices, turn on Send device usage and crash reports.

2. Reproduce the issue (Try setting a sleep timer). After the issue occurred, send feedback from the speaker device via voice command (OK Google, send feedback) then say the keywords "GHT3 sleep timer not working".

Hi JohnMcGeough,

I just did a test on one of my devices and the sleep timer also didn't work.

I will mark this for the attention of the Google Nest team and hopefully it will be investigated soon.

Cathal

Thanks.

I have a mini speaker at my night stand and I listen to it every night before going to sleep. My command is to play a given station from my Pandora favorites for a given time (20 or 30 Minutes). The google voice recognizes my command confirming the requested station and stating that my speaker will turn off upon reaching the requested  time and speaker starts playing. But the problem is that the speaker is not turning off at the requested time and continues playing until I wake up in the middle of the night and notice the speaker is on, then I issue a new command to turn the speaker off, and it shuts off. Is this an issue caused by the new updates? If so, how do I correct it?

Thank you

I have the same problem Rudy.  I’ve spent hours searching for a fix but haven’t found anything that works.

Thanks for your input Chem, I thought I was the only one and disconnected the speaker from my WiFi then re-connected it but it didn't solve the issue. Now I'm wondering if it has something to do with the new updates made by Google

Welcome to the growing club of 1000s of people with the same issue. Google has so far ignored us although my tweet to @madebygoogle got a reply they are aware of it and working on the fix. You will see so called Experts here say they took time events away but no one believe these so called experts since the product says sounds and events WILL automatically stop. Maybe tweet them yourself to increase the pressure. I am about to file a complaint with the BBB in Mountain View California.

Hi. The Nest Mini recently started ignoring my command to set sleep timer for 2 hours and keeps playing until I go into the app and stop the media from playing. The Nest hears the command and responds appropriately, saying that it will turn off in 2 hours, but it will not actually stop. This started in November and was never an issue before that. Please assist. Thank you.

Hi

my google nest hub gen 1 has also just started ignoring my sleep timer. I set the sleep timer then I ask the nest hub how much longer for the sleep timer then the nest hub tells me that there is no sleep timer.

I hope my nest hub can be fixed because it’s frustrating that the sleep timer isn’t working.

I also have experienced the same problem with my Google speakers, have worked fine for years, then within the last week no longer work.

Thank you for adding your experience with this issue. Hopefully this will help get it fixed, because it's a feature I use every day.

I play Spotify playlist at bedtime and ask to stop playing in 30minutes or an hour, the device recognizes my command and plays music but it doesn’t stop in the requested time. It’s been working fine for a year and now it fails, have rebooted it a few times, no luck, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

I’m having the same issue. I’d also greatly appreciate it if anyone knows how to resolve this problem .

Thanks for your suggestion. I have just set up to enable access for the Google Home and Spotify apps, will test it out. I do see a lot of nest mini users reporting the same problem so it could be something to do with software update recently.

Thanks

The question was not about Data Saver. It was about no media timers working. Tell your AI to just go away and have people pay attention to the issue that 1000s of people have reported.

When are Google going to fix their sleep feature on Google hub.  It has now become a peice of junk sitting on my bedside table.  I now have to use my mobile phone to listen to the radio and turn off after 2 hours

Google hub used to be fantastic and I recommended it to friends.  Now I tell them to buy Alexa.  I have Alexa in my caravan and it still can play the radio and turn off after a set time.

I believe that the Google I.T. have s

This has been an issue for a couple of weeks now. There is a previous post about the sleep timer not working which has had almost 7000 views and 250 comments. The administrators have now made this previous thread 'read only'. Think they are getting cheesed off that so many people are complaining?

Just FYI, this functionality has also stopped working on my Google Home speaker and Google Nest (1st Generation) display, within the last few days. Rebooting the devices did not help. Was about to do factory restores but will hold off, since this appears to be an issue for everyone.

Thanks for letting me know.

Hi all.

When playing Spotify on my Google Nest Mini, when I ask it to 'stop playing in xx minutes', it acknowledges it ok but carries on after the specified time.  It has worked fine up to about a week ago.

I have re-booted the device with no success.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Not sure how to edit above question (so used reply).  I also have the same problem on my Google Nest Display unit.  So it does not look lika a device problem.

I have the same problem. It says it will turn off after xxxx minutes but does not. I have re-installed Home app, reset speakers and searched the settings but nothing helps.

I have the exact problem with my Google Nest hub gen2. It worked fine, but about 3 days ago it stopped working. I use phrase: "Hey Google, stop playing in 30 minutes". It aknowledges it, but wont stop playing after 30min. This is super annoying, because I have trouble falling asleep if bedroom is complitely quiet.

Amen!

Same here! I use the phrase "set a sleep timer for xx minutes". My Google nest mini replies "Xxx speaker will stop playing in xx minutes". And then it goes on playing forever. This started happening about 2 days ago. I use it to play audiobooks from Google play .

Please help...
