If it's a 1st generation Google (Nest/ Home) Hub there are seemingly hundreds of users who's devices have suddenly bricked, without warning since last year. A network or firmware update is suspected. There is no feedback or support available and users are giving up or scrapping them. Other threads tell more at https://tinyurl.com/38uesjrk  or https://tinyurl.com/2cfhywtw

Hey LowGear,

Thanks for reaching out, and apologize for the late response.

We know how challenging it can be not to have a working device when needed - we'd love to help. To confirm, is your device stuck at G-Logo, or it's just stuck on a gray screen? To get a clearer picture, please send us a short clip video showing the issue.

@alanwin : Appreciate your help here.

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

My Gen1 Hub Max has also stopped functioning. Even after doing the factory reset it stays on the G logo when plugged in and does nothing else. Are these being bricked because of the Sonos v Google lawsuit back in January?

Same problem. Is it anything I can do !

I didn't know my severe criticism of Google's lack of support and unwillingness to stand by their products (specifically, 1st gen Home Hubs like mine that suddenly stop working for no good reason) was helpful, but I appreciate the feedback anyway. 😑

My Home Hub also has stopped working. It has the dreaded grey G logo. Factory reset did not work either. I got this from the Google Store in June 2020, will I be eligible for a replacement ?

It would also be interesting to know what device the Home app is running on. Mine is a pre-ban (Trump) Huawei cellphone. BTW I just tried installing yet again to no avail, and I have the latest Home app version (updated 2 days ago). Same old problem - There is a problem - reboot - locks up at Link Account  - but it is already linked in the  app (Recognition and sharing screen). Useless. link account.jpg

I have exactly the same problem, stuck at this screen. All of a sudden the display started to have issues such as camera not working in my case. On going through the basic solutions none worked. Then disconnected it from google home now it will not reconnect. Checked Wi-Fi and router all fine. Everything else is working such as speakers, door bell, fire alarms just not this it will not connect to Wi-Fi. It matters not how many times I boot or try find devices using google home nothing works and its only this device.

This has happened to me twice. I just finally got the last time to fix and it was the biggest pain I've ever had to deal with technology related. I made sure I deleted my hub from the app and still this time when I factory reset, it says that it cannot be added to he because under different user even though it isn't.

My Nest Hub Max stopped connecting with the app so I factory reset it and now I can’t even get past the setup screen. Is there a fix to this? Now I have an expensive device that doesn’t even do anything. When will there be a fix?

I have 2 Max hubs that went black this morning. What is going now? I can't see myself buying another 2 hubs.

With no response from Google on the issue of my Hub stopping working and one of my Google Nest Cams now stopping working, I took the decision to ditch my Google cameras and switch to an Arlo Ultra 2 system and a doorbell. I now have 3 x 4K cameras, their own base unit so there are no connectivity issues, my doorbell connects straight away. The only downside, is they don’t record 24x7 but the are great at sporting motion and recording.  I’d definitely recommend giving them a go.

In the end I threw my perfect-condition Google Home Hub away, due to it bricking without warning and Google completely ignoring all support requests and tickets . There are now issues with Google Nest Connect and Yale Lock bricking after an update, as well. Tbh all this hassle means it's just not worth bothering any more and I won't ever invest in any Google hardware again. Google actually says on the Home Hub carton that it's subject to change without notification or obligation. So they can pull the plug without notice, which is what they do.
