Hello , My teenage Grandson with severe Autism lives with me and I am ordering him / us a Google Nest hub ( 2nd generation )
He has speech and language issues but HE will want to control it to ask for his music video's etc
Would he have to say ''phrases'' first for Google to recognise his voice? As he CANNOT DO THAT
He WANTS to say what he wants but he will have difficulty with the actual phrases if he has to say them for Google to recognise his voice 😞
SOMEHOW it worked on Alexa so he is used to saying what he wants but not the ''training of the hub'' and saying phrases to recognise his voice , it is difficult for children and adults with speech difficulties and verbal understanding difficulties 😞 😞
I know he will want to ''say'' it and not type it in etc but I am not sure how we are going to handle his speech recognition if he has to say phrases
I have no idea how I managed to set it up for Alexa!! 😉 Lol
I do not want to upset him or stress him out as he will be DESPERATE to use it and will want it to work ''like now'' without any difficulties or triggered anxiety in him ( and then therefore me! Lol )
I am not sure how those with limited understanding are meant to cope with the voice set up , etc!! 😞
HE CANNOT READ VERY WELL , so it would not even help for me to write down the phrases for him to say!!! 😕
How many phrases will he have to say ( IF possible ) for Google to recognise his voice please?
I SO want this to work for him as we had huge problems with AMAZON as a COMPANY and I refuse to use them or their equipment etc anymore , hence moving to a Google Nest and subscribing to YouTube Premium instead of Amazon Music now!!
Am NOT going back to Amazon , but we need the voice recognition to work for him , he does not pronounce words clearly at all and will not know or understand what to say , especially if long phrases?? 😞 😞
ALSO do you have to say ''Hey Google'' or can I change it to just ''COMPUTER'' as that is what he said before 🙂 xx

Hey NannyP,
Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I'm happy to know that this information is useful to you.
Yes, even without Voice Match set up, anyone can trigger the Google Home Hub by saying "Hey Google" or "Okay Google, "followed by a command.
Google Nest Hub lets you control features like music, alarms, lights, etc, and information searches with your voice.
Let me know how it goes,
Daniel.

Hello NannyP,
Thanks for reaching out to the community forum. I see you're interested in learning more about the Nest Hub 2nd generation. I'm happy to help you understand how it works and what features might be most helpful for you to get a better experience.
One feature of the Nest Hub 2 is the voice match. This option lets the hub recognize who's speaking and only show them personal results.
Another feature you might find useful is adjusting the sensitivity for voice commands. This way, the Nest Hub will only respond when you want to, even if there's a little background noise.
To easily interact with your Nest Hub 2, you can use a wake word like "Hey Google" or "OK Google."
If you have more questions, please let me know in this post.
Best regards,
Daniel.

Thank you Daniel - I am trying to understand the voice command set up
So if ANYONE says ''Hey Google'' and then a command will the hub do it even if voice match is not set up?
If so this will help me as he may manage to say that 😃

Thank you Daniel - I signed up for Youtube Premium specifically for the Google Nest Hub which arrives tomorrow
It is a 2nd generation one , not the latest model etc but is new
HOW would he ask to play a specific song please? As I think he may find it HARD as he always says the artists name first then the song title
Would he have to say ''on You Tube'' as well to watch his song on a video please?
Or would it automatically play on his Youtube Premium , once I have set it up / signed in?
Thanks - I SO want to be prepared for when it arrives tomorrow as I will have to set it up while he is in bed as he does not like his daily routine changed or disturbed AT ALL
So I want him to be able to use it perfectly ( and easily ) in the morning!
I am SO HAPPY we CHANGED from Alexa which hogs the market as does Amazon in general but I LEFT them after they refused me a refund on a £200 FAULTY ITEM from Germany and I was not happy with their greedy and uncaring 'resolution' process as they were happy to basically rob a special needs child as it was HIS money 😞
Anyway I am FREE of Amazon and Prime etc and HAPPIER and weirdly enough ( to my surprise ) BETTER OFF financially WITHOUT THEM AND I WILL recoup my money actually quite QUICKLY without £9 Prime , hence I was able to SIGN UP for the Youtube Premium with WHAT I HAD SAVED and therefore TRANSITION HAPPILY to a Google Nest HUB which is even BETTER for my Grandson as he can WATCH AND LISTEN rather than just listen with a 'picture' showing and NOT a video as his previous 'music'
ONE more question please , HOW do I ensure RESTRICTED MODE is ON on the You Tube on the Google Nest hub , thanks! 🙂

Hello Daniel - You have helped me so much! 😁
My hub actually arrived this morning and my Grandson was due to go out with his PA / carer today to a farm SO I set it up while he was away and it took MINUTES
When he got home he was happy but then he got scared and FLUSTERED as he was SO used to saying ''computer play ...''
He kept saying ''hey Google'' over and over and forgetting what to say next bless him , plus then he got a bit flustered as Google did not UNDERSTAND what he was saying , so played the ''wrong'' thing!
His speech is not CLEAR and each word is easily misinterpreted , it is like a speech impediment , for some reason Alexa was less ''sensitive'' than Hey Google BUT I see these as just teething issues as he is a bit ANXIOUS and scared plus when Google ''get's it wrong'' he is frustrated
Yet I still feel it will be okay in TIME , once he gets used to it , it is actually good PRACTICE for his speech , to speak his words clearly
It is just such a pity he struggles with speech and words yet IN TIME I feel it will IMPROVE AND Google will understand what he is saying MORE as he grows in CONFIDENCE etc as this is all so NEW to him and he ''hates new'' and loves everything to stay the same
Me I am so GLAD we made the transition as there's no time like the present for us both to get used to the new HUB as it is so much more user friendly and yet Google misunderstood ME once or twice as well so is ultra sensitive and we are all getting used to ''each other'' Lol
I won't be using it much myself anyway , it has always been for HIM as he LOVES having his own mini screen all to himself and that he can CONTROL , so once he gets used to it and grows in CONFIDENCE with it I reckon he will LOVE it , especially the Youtube VIDEOS as there were NO music video's on Alexa , just a picture showing which represented each song , no movement , so an actual video is great and we ''accidently'' got onto one with dancing vegetables which was so funny , and enjoyable , so for now as long as he is having FUN with it , even if MISUNDERSTOOD for a while I feel once his confidence grows he will absolutely LOVE it as I already DO , so MUCH as it is so SLEEK and beautiful and VERY responsive even when I was ''whispering'' instructions ''she'' picked up on it and has super strong ''hearing''
It was the easiest set up EVER as I had actually put the WHOLE DAY aside to set it up in case there were any issues and it actually only took me about 10 minutes! 😉 Lol
Thank you , it is a SUPERB bit of kit which as we BOTH get more confident with it it can change our very lives!! 🙂 🙂 xx
