How to get device to identify itself?

Tschrock123

I have an unknown Google Home Mini in front of me, and I want to figure out which one it is in my list of devices so I can fix it's name. I've tried asking it what it's current name is - I've tried asking it what room it's in - nothing seems to be working. It always responds with something completely unrelated, or "You can find the names of all your devices in the Google Home app" - (Wow, so helpful!). I just want it to identify itself somehow. Is there anything I can ask it to figure out which device it is, without having to go though every single device in the list and try playing something?

Hey Tschrock123,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Just to add, to know your speaker name you can say, "Hey Google, what speaker are you?"

By the way, thanks to @Ellie1 for helping here.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers,

Muddi

Maybe if you unplug your nest and open up your bluetooth on your phone then plug it back in the device number will pop up to pair and then you can rename it from there

That article appears to be specific to Google Family WiFi, not Google Home devices. I don't have any of Google's WiFi devices.
