Lights on mini constantly pulsing

richardtc007

Over the past 2 weeks I've noticed that the Google Home Minis  (5 of them) throughout my house frequently have four pulsing white lights. This is not the result of someone saying anything remotely close to "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" and it is not the result of an errant broadcast.

I've noticed that it even happens when I'm the only one home and haven't said a word.

I've done the whole unplug and reset routine. Why are they all suddenly listening???

Hello everyone,

We have some great news to share! Our team found a fix for this issue, and we're happy to see that some of you have already confirmed that your devices function normally now.

For those users who are still experiencing the same issues, we kindly ask for your continued patience as the update is gradually being rolled out to everyone.

Besides this, when a routine does an “announce to household” the announcement used to be preceded by an alert tone.  Now it’s not, but the device pulsates after the announcement until it’s asked to do something else.

Yes, this too.

The tone advising of a broadcast is no longer occurring.

We are having the same problems as everyone else in this thread, in the uk with 2nd gen minis. Also when I ask my bedroom mini to broadcast since last night it now says "Sorry, I didn't understand"

Additional note: I look after my mother, who is in her late 80s.  We rely on routine that use “broadcast” & “announce” for her to be able to let me know when she wants something or needs help.  I need the alert tone to wake me up if she needs help in the night.  If we can’t depend on these anymore I’m just going to have to run a string from her room to a bell in mine.  Thanks Google, for no response or fix.

Note to anyone in a similar situation, using the home device as a method of communicating the need for assistance or help.  Since this is a big deal, we decided to stop relying on these and bought some “smart doggie doorbells”.  1 receiver and 3 transmitters from Amazon for 20 bucks.  I plug the receiver into an outlet in my bedroom, and Velcro a transmitter to her nightstand, wheelchair & wall by the toilet.  She touches it and it rings in my room.  It’s plenty loud enough to wake me.  If she’s on the floor and can’t get to a button then google is the backup now.  Hope this helps anyone else boned by this latest issue.

Same problem

Thank you all for your answers.  We are not alone with the issue.  Now, I just hope that someone from Google will look at this thread and acknowledge the issue.

Same issue for me in the UK with the same firmware as everyone else here. Was there a recent update perhaps?

Anyone having Bluetooth connecting issues with this firmware? mine stop connecting to my pc via Bluethoot

Google Nest support says they are now aware of this.

I also notice that the actual broadcast is performed before the sending device confirms that it will be sent.

I had this problem for a few days, but now it instead say’s ”I don’t understand” when I try to give the messages to be broadcast.

Not sure if some genius has tried to fix this mess, but broadcast does not work at all now.

Beginning to think it time to get rid of these devices. Google have clearly stopped caring!

Same issue here, been ongoing since Wednesday (5 days).

Same problem here (NL). Since a week or so.

System firmware version: 356012
Cast firmware: 1.56.356012

Having the same issue.

Any idea if this is getting fixed?

It been weeks for me too and not just my minis but my Home and 1st Gen Display

Hello, I'm facing the same issue in Italy on 5 home mini. Google Cast firmware 1.56.356012 and system firmware 356012.

A similar behavior has been founded on my google nest hub. After a broadcast announce, it does not show the slide show of the photos on my account but shows the "menù" that I used to see after a swipe from left to right

Please, fix. It makes me mad

Same issue here in Australia. You have to ask any other question to get the lights to stop flashing.

The last few Google updates/voice updates have been terrible "Hey Google play music" reply "Sorry I don't understand" The sorry I don't understand is getting to be more common now then it us to be. Have stopped buying google speakers at the moment, now have a few Alexa's, which so far have been great.

It seems that after they rolled out the fuschia os, the devices have been plagued with issues. My wife even said do we need to get new ones? I said it won’t help because it’s software bugs. Frustration is definitely building.

I'm having the same issues across 5 devices in the UK and continuous conversion is not enabled

Same here in the UK. Started about a week ago.

I'm also having this issue.  I'm also on the beta version of the home app and can't find the "Continuted Conversation" option in that version.

have had this issue for several weeks. Driving me mad.

Same issues as all described in this thread. We've also noticed the mini getting warm to the touch after the lights have been pulsating for hours (like we weren't home to notice and stop them).

I'm having the same issue here. It's really interfering with my kid's bedtime, since we have speakers in their rooms to controls lights on/off and broadcast to them in the morning.

Would greatly appreciate if this issue can be resolved soon.

Same here. How will we know that Google/Nest is taking this seriously?

The issue persists for me in the U.S. in English, even with Continued Conversation disabled.

I'm having the same issue:

I have 5 minis, all with firmware 1.56.356012

When I ask a mini to broadcast, my message is immediately played on the other 4 minis (no broadcast alert sound) and the mini I spoke to will say "alright, broadcasting now" at the same time.

Then, the other 4 minis will have all 4 lights continuously blinking until I tell that specific mini to "stop"

I've tried rebooting my wifi, rebooting all the minis, and turning off continued conversations

Same issue, very frustrating to continually need to tell all speakers to “stop”. Please fix soon, thank you!

Same issue. Google wants to blame us and fix these settings when it’s really in their end.

The light on all my Google Home and minis start pulsing after a message broadcast. I can't do a second broadcast until the pulsing devices is woken up. I call customer support and we went through a factory reset all the Google devices, setup a new home account and still it does not help.

Ever since the major Google Home update a few weeks ago, my Google Home and Google Minis are entering listening mode (appparently listening mode?, lights pulsing white) permamently unless I either engage them again, or unplug them and plug back in. It appears to only happen right after we make an anouncement through our speakers. It has been concistent and reproducable. I have been trying to work with Google Home support, but they have been awful to deal with. Asking me to create a new Gmail account .. basically start from scratch. They have offered no insight or even bothered to try to troubleshoot. I did reset on of the speakers completely and this did not remedy the issue. It still enters listening mode after it receves an anouncement from another speaker. It is sbviously the Home app update that caused this.

As an addendum to my other response, we have two (2) version-1 minis, two (2) version-2 minis, One OG Google Home and One Google Home Max. The issue DOES NOT happend on the Max (so far) even though it receives full house announcements. It is (or so it seems) the full house announcements that has been sending our units into the perpetual listening mode.  So, with this, it is obviously not the units as it is occurring on three different models of Google Speakers. The issue started for all of them at the same time right after the last Home update roll out. Google broke something. They are aware, but are trying to blame it on my Google account. Literally EVERYTHING else is working perfectly (or as good as it can be expected) with the exception of this new phenomena everyone here is clearly having.

As one more addendum and perhaps the most freightening is that I've also noticed that my phone's microphone green light is coming on for no reason and staying on. Again this is only recently within the last month or so since the Google Home update. I have to reboot my phone to get the mic to turn off.  What the hell Google?

This affects multiple devices. I have an original Google Home, four Nest Minis, and Nest Audio, and all of them are flashing at once. The pattern is all four LEDs pulsing.

Based on the LED help page, the pattern seems to be "Google Assistant responding".

Every single device is affected, and it hasn't stopped for several days.

Can anyone help?

The first thing I would do is remove the power from them, and leave them disconnected from power for at least 30 seconds before reconnecting the power.

Normally, 4 white lights flash when the device detects "Hey Google" but they should then fade and turn off if you didn't issue a question or command.
