Neat Cam Monitoring

Cvan
Community Member

Hi, I have over the last 36 hours been having issues with the nest cam monitoring on my Hub Max. I currently pay for the subscription for the 30 day video recording history.

Every minute or so, the display will show the notification "Nest Cam Monitoring Off" and then a few brief seconds later will show "Nest Cam Monitoring". The green camera light also turns off during this period.  I'm not sure it's internet-related as the monitoring should continue if it disconnects (and I'm pretty sure our wifi doesn't drop out every minute).  I am concerned that someone else has logged into my camera and is constantly viewing footage?…is this possible or is it just the unit malfunctioning?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hey folks,

My apologies for the delays. We appreciate all your efforts in updating the thread with the issue. Please provide the current firmware and system version of your devices:

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings > About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Also, it is best if you could send feedback on your device once you noticed the issue. Please say,"Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: "GHT3 Nest Cam Monitoring." This will help the team to further investigate the issue.

Let us know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi

Reset stopped for a couple days, now doing it again. Did not resolve issue.

Hi @Muddi

I'd like to emphasise the main issue with this bug; when the hub shows the notification that monitoring is off, the camera turns off.

The result of this that the camera stops working intermittently.

Could you please confirm this has been included in your report you said has been escalated? It's not just an annoying notification as dinner people have said.

Thanks in advance

Just chiming in to say that I've also been having this issue for about a month now. Happens on both of my Nest Hub Max's.

OH NO! I am having the same issues with the "Nest Cam Monitoring Off", then "Nest Cam Monitoring". I have a new ADT a;arm system which uses the Hub to connect all of the cameras in my house. Unfortunately most of the time they have not been working. The outdoor camera on the fron of my house is the worst, and when I manage to get it back online, I find that 2 or 3 of the indoor cameras have turned off (not my doing) and I have to turn them back on. I am tired of this entire set up and it's only been a few months into a 2 year contract with ADT. There must be a solution, the amount of money I spent to buy these devices has been a very bad value, and I am going to post all over Social Media mu horrific experience. I fully expect that none of the cameras will be working should someone breach the security of my home .. wouldn't that just be ironic!!

I'm having the same issue. We noticed this a week and a half ago when we were on vacation and the hub home max went offline. Had to have someone come over and reboot it. Tonight I noticed the nest monitoring turning off and on.

Fuschia version:

9.20221010.3.176

Software version:

50.26.12.493473605

Same issue here, Nest Cam Monitoring Off", then "Nest Cam Monitoring" repeatedly. I removed the hub from the home app and then did a factory reset. After adding the hub back on the app, the camera would work for only a few minutes then it will go offline. This is so annoying as I'm paying for the 30 day video subscription.

For several weeks my Google Hub Max has been randomly showing "nest cam being viewed".  I know its not myself or wife cause we are in the same room not using our phones.  I tried many trouble shooting steps, hard reseting devices, changing password, etc.  Nothing seems to work.  I also notice that some of my nest cameras have blinking status lights, indicating those might be viewing as well.

Is there a bug, or has someone gained access to my cameras?

@eschan03

There have been a number of reports of "Nest Cam Monitoring" in this forum in the last month or so, with many of the posts consolidated into this thread with over 80 replies:

Hi Juni, wanted to add here that I am also experiencing the same behavior with my Nest Hub Max since December and even a complete format/reset didnt work.  Still seeing the nest cam monitoring service going up and down constantly.   Has this been identified as a firmware issue that was introduced back in December? Thanks -Ty

My Google Home Max is about 3 years old and within the past month keeps cycling "Nest Camera Monitoring off" then comes back on for a few minutes then goes back off. It does this several times a day and now I am not getting images at all on my nest app.

It is connected to wifi because Google assistant responds and it shows my pictures and plays music. I have it connected on our 2.4ghz network.

I have removed it from my Google Home app, factory reset it, powered it off for 2 mins and set it back up by clicking on the + in the Google home app.

I also have an Google outdoor camera doing the same thing. I have not reset it yet because I need a ladder.

I have 2 other Google cameras that work just fine. The thermostat works well too. I also have several minis and a doorbell camera all connected.

Please advise. Could this be a software issue?

Turn the camera on or off from Device settings
Open the Google Home app . Touch and hold your device's tile. Nest Cam. Turn Home monitoring features on or off.

Thank you for this suggestion however the camera will still not work. It still says it is offline and cycling the monitoring on and off even though it is online because I am playing my YouTube music on it right now and can see the pictures.

Hi @Princess, is Google actively looking into fixing this? Its rendered our Kitchen cam completely useless. The nest cam monitoring service for our nest hub max is rarely on... thanks!

If you seem to have the need to turn to stream for your Nest Cameras back on frequently, you may have the Home Away/Assist Feature activated. This Feature will automatically toggle your nest cameras On/Off depending on whether you are home.

This May Work,
Peter

I have also factory rest my home max and within a week the problem came back. Now it does not record anything and I do have the NEST subscription. Very annoying

System firmware version: 9.20221010.3.176

Cast firmware:1.67.330920

If this is not going to be fixed then you should issue a credit for all of us having this issue with Google products.

Hi, I been having issues with the nest cam monitoring on my Hub Max.

Every minute or so, the display will show the notification "Nest Cam Monitoring Off" and then a few brief seconds later will show "Nest Cam Monitoring". The green camera light also turns off during this period. It happens regularly.
I have rebooted the hub max and my Google mesh internet, but it didn’t help.

Since December we have been seeing an increasing number of "Nest Cam Being Viewed" alerts.

I am the only one that has access to the cameras.

I have changed my wifi password twice and it is still happening.

@Onefastbike

These seem to be false notifications that are happening to a bunch of customers:

As other previous post about seeing constant message that comes up on our Nest Hub Max cam showing or saying 'Nest Cam Being Viewed'.  However, I have not seen any answers or concerns about this message and what type of correction to make.  Should we be concerned that some outside source has hacked our system and invading our privacy?

@Princesss Do we have any updates here? My hub max monitoring/camera is now completely useless as the light is always off and can no longer monitor the kitchen.  This is obviously a widespread problem so wanted to understand if the dev team are looking into this with urgency. Thank you -T

Now my thermostat is showing offline. What is happening to these expensive Google products?

NestNan

Agreed. My $35 Wyze Can V3 gives me a much better image (day and night both) than my $200 Nest cams.  Very frustrating.

I am having the same issues with both on my Hubs. Has there been any sort of resolution?

RD6

My wife and I are the only ones with access to our account, however, we have noticed the display say the camera is being viewed while neither of us are on our phone. Has anyone else had this problem. My concern is my account has been compromised.

@RD6

This is a known issue for some customers on the Nest Hub Max, one that Google has not resolved. They're inviting feedback with the keywords: "GHT3 Nest Cam Monitoring":
