Nest Hub {2nd Gen} Freezing - FIXED but cannot reply to old thread.

Nest Hub {2nd Gen} Freezing  <= The original thread

The member Azarco suggested ...

  1. At the back of the Nest display, unplug the power cord and wait for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until the screen with the "G" logo shows up
  2. Repeat the first step, 10 more times.
  3. After the customer plugs the power cord back in, wait for the device to reset. The device announces "Welcome to Google Home" to signify that it's ready for setup.

... this took forever and I really thought it was a waste of time BUT yes it worked 🤗

I have no clue how or why this worked but there have been no hanging or blank screens since. It still does what looks like a nightly restart but so does my other Nest Hub.

Apparently I took too long to respond and the original thread is locked but I wanted to give credit where credit is due so Thank you Azarco !

@Roy11

It seems that our Nest Hubs do some sort of soft reboot every night, for us around 3 am or so.

D'OH

OK I'm not completely surprised BUT this is one of those things that should really have a mention somewhere or atleast a friendly "Don't Panic" sign with the Restarting message.

Thank you for the info!

Hey MplsCustomer,

I believe your concern is different from the OP's issue. Could you tell us what's the status of your device when it restarts (eg: playing music)?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Nope, she's correct and responding to another part of the original message.

It would make things a lot clearer if the threads were not locked so quickly.

@Muddi

I do not have a separate concern. In his post, Roy11 mentioned that his Nest Hub "still does what looks like a nightly restart". I merely pointed out that ours also do a soft reboot around 3 am (other customers have also pointed this out), but that Google Nest does not document this anywhere.

@Princesss

The malfunction that causes weather data to disappear overnight during the nightly soft reboot around 3 am from clock displays on Nest Hubs certainly seems like a Google Nest bug that we cannot resolve on our own.

It started happening with two of our Nest Hubs when they upgraded to Cast Firmware Version 1.60.305621. It has not occurred on a third Nest Hub also on 1.60.305621 and has not occurred on a fourth Nest Hub on 1.56.309385. Now that one of the two misbehaving Nest Hubs has now upgraded to 1.62.312297, the nightly disappearance of weather data during the nightly soft reboot on that Nest Hub seems to have ceased.
