Nest Hub Max Microphone Volume Extremely Low

PretzelMan
Community Member

I have a Nest Hub Max

If I monitor the camera, the audio is very, very low.  This is NEW.

I used to be able to hear sounds easily if I monitored the camera.  Yesterday, the sound was extremely low.  I thought it was off, but if I put my ear to the speaker on my phone, I could hear faint sounds.

I checked all settings and even did a factory reset of the Hub Max.  Still almost zero sound.  I tried this on both my phone (Adnroid) and iPAD (IOS).  It was the same on both.

If I say "Hey Google..." the Hub hears me.

Any advice is appreciated.

Same here

I get a buzzing static sound also

many input would appreciate it

I do NOT have buzzing.

I just basically have no volume when watching the affected camera.

I removed, reset, and reinstalled the camera.  No improvement.

I still have no change.  Reset wifi - cameras - hub and nothing still same

I am having the same issue. I’ve also tired everything and have had no results. I’m getting frustrated.

I'm having the exact same issue and it just started in the past few days.

Same here, and only on my Hub Max.  My cameras seem fine.

I don't think it is a hardware issue because if I go into the room with the "Hey Google..." command, it hears me fine.

It is when I view the stream there is basically no volume.

When I get a chance I will call support.

I can tell they did an update around 2 AM Saturday. If I go back and look at my video it’s working fine and then it goes offline for 30 seconds to a minute and then comes back on and the audio won’t work. Appears to have been caused by an update.

I have The same issue and I started to be frustrated because I can’t hear anything

EXACT same problem over here! started a couple days ago. before, the sound from the google hub max was the most sensitive and now i can barely hear a thing. EXTREMELY frustrating

I have the same issue. At first I thought the mic is completely off. But then I can hear a faint sound from the recordings or live view. It's barely there. So annoying

just spent 1.5 hours via chat support and after everything, they're escalating to a higher level of support. i narrowed down the audio going faint sometime between last thursday night and friday morning

i did the same they just replied with nothing they can do, unit is out of warranty and need to purchase another.....weird how so many people are having issues

I get an email from them about each day asking more questions or asking me to try things. Some of the questions show they don't know their products, even though, this is supposedly the senior support team, such as adjust the mic sensitivity using the slider bar..... Which doesn't exist for the Hub Max. You can do it for the cams but not the Hub Max

That's because as usual it's probably a support team that's overseas being paid next to nothing going through an ABC support script and when that doesn't work it says solution is replacement.

Same issue here as everyone else. Can barely hear anything when I try to listen. Mine also went out between Thursday night and Friday Morning

Only change I made recently is I went from monthly nest aware account to yearly and changed Groom event monitoring to 24/7 monitoring

Hey everyone,

My apologies for the late response. I know how challenging it is when your device is not working the way it should. Let's get to the bottom of this.

  • When did the issue start?
  • What is the firmware version of your Nest Hub Max?
  • Is your phone connected to a Bluetooth speaker?
  • Have you tried checking it with another device?
  • What is the make and model of your phone where you stream the camera?

It would help a lot if you could share a video showing the issue on your Nest Hub Max, so we can take a deeper look.

Cheers,

Muddi

The issue seemed to begin 4/27 or 4/28 i can't recall exactly as i tried a few different things including deleting video history to remedy the issue.

Just saw these questions, so answering again with more detail:

  • When did the issue start?
    • It must have started sometime over the weekend.  It was working during the day for us on 4/27, we noticed it not working on 5/1.

  • What is the firmware version of your Nest Hub Max?
    • 10.20221207.2.109

  • Is your phone connected to a Bluetooth speaker?
    • No, we have never connected it to another bluetooth device at all.

  • Have you tried checking it with another device?
    • Yes, we have tried practically all our devices in the house to stream from the camera and they all produce the same result; the audio is barely audible when viewing live streamed audio from this device's camera/microphone.

  • What is the make and model of your phone where you stream the camera?
    • Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22, Windows 10 computer (both Chrome and Edge Browsers), Chromebook (Chrome browser)

My responses to your questions are basically the same as everyone else. However there is one thing I'd like to add: viewing playback in my browser has the exact same issue from a PC if that's any help

  • When did the issue start?
Like Everyone Else...  About last Wednesday or Thursday

  • What is the firmware version of your Nest Hub Max?
    System Firmware Version:  10.20221207.2.109
    Cast firmware: 1.68.353511

  • Is your phone connected to a Bluetooth speaker?
    No

  • Have you tried checking it with another device?
Yes.  VERY low microphone volume from all devices that I can monitor the feed (IOS, Android, Windows)
My other cameras have fine volume
The hub used to have very good microphone volume

  • What is the make and model of your phone where you stream the camera?
I have an Samsung android phone and an iPAD air

Also, I deleted the Hub from my home, factory reset the hub, then added it back in.  Still almost zero volume from the microphone when monitoring the stream

Can you go grab a hub max and see for yourself ?

Same issue for me, except mine is brand new out of the box, only set it up yesterday and having issues as soon as I tested it. I thought I may have a faulty one but after reading on here it seems like a firmware update has caused the issue. Is there any ETA on when another update will be pushed to resolve the issue?

  • When did the issue start?

  • What is the firmware version of your Nest Hub Max?

    System Firmware 10.20221207.2.109

    Cast Firmware 1.68.353511

  • Is your phone connected to a Bluetooth speaker?

No. I'm even not in the same country.

  • Have you tried checking it with another device?

It has same issue even if I try to view video stream through Nest Home web interface (home.nest.com). So this is definitely not a problem of a device which I use to stream on.

  • What is the make and model of your phone where you stream the camera?

As I mentioned above, it's not the case. I use Samsung S22, but there's the same low mic level issue when I try it on MacBook with Nest Home web interface.

Muddi,

As you may recall from having reported this on another page, I've had this exact problem for a couple months already, the factory reboot didn't help, I've submitted a form, and still no fix.

Same issue here.  I have multiple Home Hub Max's, regular nest cameras and door bells.  The Microphone issue only affected the Home Hub Maxs'

The issue started after an overnight firmware push to the Home Hub Max's.  One updated Thursday night into Friday morning 4/28 the second one updated Friday into Saturday 4/29.

Sound is muffled and does not pick up room audio very well anymore.

If someone has a fix please share.

Same.

I guess it is good to know I'm not alone with this issue.

I'm disappointed there is no Google response....  I thought maybe they would have an alert about this as they researched.

I did a web query and as far as I can tell, this is the only thread discussing the topic.

I did get an email today asking me if the issue is resolved.  I guess the Google AI is not quite as good as they may think.

Exact same issue. Used to hear a pin drop. Now it’s as if the volume is at 1

Hopefully this isn't the direction they are taking.   I like this product (when the mic works) and use the non camera version for locations not sitting for camera  like bedroom

Google kills all kinds of projects off, this offers several subscription based features.  Nest, and sleep/Google fit integration so I don't foresee them killing it soon.

I suspect a firmware update has done us in and hopefully they'll resolve it quickly
