Nest Hub and Sirius XM not working : Config-Failed??

sarosi
Community Member

I have been using Sirius XM with my nest hub for years. All of a sudden it stopped working.

You can request to play something from Sirius XM, and the Hub obliges... "Streaming XXXX on Sirius XM..."

The screen then shows that the hub switches to Sirius XM but just before the player launches you can see (VERY briefly)an alert that reads:

"config-failed :0. Could not retrieve receiver configuration, please try again in a few minutes"

I have tried re-linking my Sirius account, unplugging the hub and even the entire wifi network. Nothing seems to fix it.

The hub functions properly on all other fronts (Spotify works etc)

Anyone have any advice here?

thanks

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting this to the community. The team is aware and is currently investigating this issue. To help the team further look into this, kindly turn on device usage data and crash reports. Reproduce the issue by asking your Google Nest speaker/display to play a station on SiriusXM, then give it a voice command to send feedback using the keywords “GHT3 Sirius XM stop streaming."

Please keep an eye on this thread for further updates. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience.

Warmly,
Alex

Any resolution on this? This is really inconvenient and quickly becoming intolerable!

Guessing we'll only get some attention to this if we keep yelling about it

Saw this elsewhere. I’m currently testing it but so far it’s been playing continuously for a few songs on Watercolors. Just say Sirius instead of SirusXM

gigem9000 • 18 days ago

SXM had a major app update last week and since then, I've had the problems you suggested. So I wonder if the feed from SXM to Google changed with the major app

update/redesign? Today, as a test (that I saw on another post), I just said "Sirius" instead of

"Sirius XM" in my request and it worked better.

Maybe placebo, I need to do more testing, but yes, it seems like the GH integration isn't working great right now.”

Just tried. Did not work for me. Played about 3 minutes.

Same here. Played about 20 minutes before failing in the usual manner.

Casting from a phone/tablet still works as described earlier in this thread. There's a reasonably quick handoff of control to the G/N device and you can close the SXM app on your phone.

The casting from my iPhone doesn’t work for me. Siruis says connected to the Nest and the logo shows in the Nest screen but pressing play doesn’t work. work. Everything freezes on The Blue Screen Of Death.

I found that casting is very intermittent.  Last Friday I casted for an hour or two from my phone with zero issues.  This morning it worked for about 15 minutes.  Playing SiriusXM directly on the device worked for about 1 minute.

Wow this is incredibly frustrating! I’ve done all of the linking and unlinking and resetting, etc. I also noticed that SiriusXM has a new app on the phone with new interface and logo but when you voice command your Google to play it it’s still showing the old logo. However, if you start playing on your phone and then try to connect it to your home from your phone app, you see the new app show up on the Google Home screen, but it just freezes. To me it seems like there’s a new SiriusXM app and for whatever reason Google isn’t compatible with it or the proper steps weren’t taken to make sure the two work together. Please fix now! We are paying for the service.  Also, when mine stops playing, it just automatically goes to an XM video page for a recent news videos of Megan Kelly show? Don’t understand this!

I had routines setup to stream various SiriusXM channels throughout the day as an all-day routine but I had to disable it because the frequent cutting out after a few minutes was super annoying. I re-enabled it yesterday as a test based on the recent posts here said to have success. It seemed, for a little bit, it was fixed yesterday evening. I streamed SiriusXM from my Google Home speaker for what seemed like three to four hours without any interruptions. Then sometime this morning it broke again. What it is doing now is it kicks off a routine, begins streaming a SiriusXM channel, and after about 30 seconds, it pauses the stream for about 10 seconds, then un-pauses and resumes streaming. It repeats this over and over and over. I say the stream "pauses" because it doesn't sound like it's cutting out. When it would cut out, I'd miss part of the stream and the song would be over with when it resumed, whereas now it's stopping mid-stream, then resuming again right where it left off. It's jarring and weird to hear what is normally a 3 minute song take upwards of 8 minutes to complete. But hey, at least it's progress I suppose. I guess this means somebody, whether Google or SiriusXM, is at least toying with it and trying out a fix even if not practical. I'm going to turn off the routines again because the pausing and un-pausing streaming is far too jarring to enjoy comfortably but looking forward to more fixes coming soon hopefully.

Not sure why this post didn't go through the first time but I meant to post it several hours ago 1/10/24.

As of later today, it seems the issue may have possibly been fixed. I re-enabled routines again and one just kicked off about an hour ago and is still playing, no cut outs and no consistent pausing. I'm really hoping there was a fix done recently and this addresses the issue. Gonna keep playing routines every few hours and see how it fares tonight and over the rest of the week. I'll post another reply here with my results.

Hope I'm not jinxing myself or speaking to soon but I actually came home today ask Google to play my favorite XM station and so far it's been playing for at least 4 hours uninterrupted fingers crossed

I'm going on about five days so far and it's mostly back to normal. It's not quite 100% completely resolved as I do still experience some disconnects and cut outs, but it's usually upwards of two hours or longer whereas before it used to be about 30 seconds or every minute or two. I can deal with that as my workaround has been to create routines to kick off a SiriusXM stream every two hours. It seems they also fixed the Xtra channels too as it now streams past the first initial song.

Same issue here for the past 5 weeks or so.  I can’t even cast Sirius XM from my phone through the hub.

super irritating!  Why am I paying for Sirius XM if I can’t listen to it at home?

This issue has been going on since beginning December. It would play anywhere from 30 secs to 15 min and then stop. As of 1/11/24, smart devices acknowledge the command but plays nothing. I too would go to the app and cast to one of my 6 devices but that is not a solution! Is there a fix?! and why does this continue to happen????

Seems to be back to normal, been giving commands for XM radio to play my channels for the last two days and it's been playing right through, No stopping. And all automations seem to be working again. I did nothing. Maybe they did a fix on their end. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

Lucky you. Tried a few times after seeing your post and still nothing but silence.

Try a reboot on your devices, did that on mine not sure if it helped but couldn't hurt

Ours seem to have gone back to normal ("knock on wood").  I had done reboots and linking and relinking prior to this and at that time, it didn't help, but maybe they fixed it.

Will give it a try again. I've rebooted again this morning and can't get it to work still.

Still no luck here.  Our hubs still do nothing when attempting to play any channel on Sirius XM.  Still can’t even cast from my phone app through any of our hubs.

I'm with you. Even casting doesn't work. Im streaming to my Bose sound bar now.

So this is a new one. SXM seems to work on my Home hub and home minis but still does not work on the Nest Wifi points, silence and app is unable to cast to the point???!!?!?!

I can get it to work on the one google nest that I sent the broadcast message from but it won't work on any of my other Nest wifi, points, displays or other google mini's (including 1st and 2nd gen).   I am thinking if everyone keeps sending the broadcast message from all their devices that aren't working we can inudate google with a bunch of error messages.   Maybe then the google wizards will start looking at the problem

(main issue) Not sure I can pinpoint when this started, but it's been within the past few weeks.  I tell one of my Google devices "Hey Google... play [whatever] from Sirius XM."  Sometimes it plays, and sometimes it doesn't - but further, when (if) it plays, it plays for a bit then just stops.  How long that takes is random.  Sometimes it will play for 30 minutes with no issue, and other times I'll have to tell it to play again a dozen times in 15 minutes - no apparent pattern.  I have unlinked and relinked my Sirius XM account, I have restarted my modem, my router, and all five of my Google devices (1 original Google Home, and 4 Nest Mini's) - no avail.  (also, no other device is already streaming Sirius from my account.)  If I cast from the Sirius app on my phone, it works fine - there doesn't seem to be an issue - it only seems to be when I tell the Google device to play directly that this happens.  Thoughts?

Another random issue...

As I mentioned, I have five Google devices.  In the Google Home app, I have a couple of groups setup - including "master suite" and "whole house".  Sometimes I'll say "Play [whatever] from Sirius XM on whole house" - and it will say "I was unable to find [whatever] on Sirius XM... [etc]" - yet if I just say the EXACT same thing, but omit the group - "Play [whatever] from Sirius XM" - it will play just fine... and THEN I'll say "Hey Google... transfer to whole house" and that works just fine.  This issue comes and goes.  Seems like it will work fine for awhile, and NOT work for awhile, then work again, etc.  Thoughts?

(I should also mention that this DOES just seem to be with Sirius XM... my connected Apple Music account seems to work just fine...)

I've been experiencing the same issue for a few weeks now. I wish Google and SXM would fix this.

Ditto... I have had the same problem for the past few weeks.  Do you know how to get a complaint filed?  It's not getting any better.

Say Leave Feedback to the speaker.   I leave one every night when it happens!

I HAVE begun leaving feedback, so I do hope that helps.

Meanwhile, I played a Sirius XM station when I got up this morning.  It played without issue for 59 minutes - but that's when it shut off.  I did other things for awhile, but eventually went back to asking Google to "play [whatever] from Sirius XM".  It would literally play for about 2 seconds and shut off.  That happened six times in a row.  The next time, it wouldn't play at all, then back to that 2 second business, then not at all.  I finally said "Hey Google... play Apple Music"... and it did.  That ran fine for about 30 minutes... then IT shut off, also.  That's the first issue I've had with that - so I'm now wondering if it's not just a Sirius XM issue, but maybe connected streaming services in general...?  Frustrating...

I've been having this issue for weeks now. I have 7 Nest speakers, two connected in a stereo pair. I start playing a Sirius XM station, and then some random amount of time later it just stops. When I try to restart, it will usually go for just a few seconds and shut off again. Other music services - YouTube, Apple Music, iHeartRadio seem to be working fine, or at least better.

I have been having the same issue with Sirius XM. I ask for a specific channel and the voice repeats the request, then silence. If I make the same request with TuneIn, response is immediate. If there is a solution, as one post stated, please let me know what it is.

A bit of followup... I HAVE continued leaving feedback every time the stream stops (or won't start at all).  I've also started experimenting a bit.  As I mentioned previously, I have 5 Google devices - and usually, when I stream something, I stream it on all five.  I've started paring that down - and SEEM to be having a little better luck.  If I start my stream on one speaker, then (via the Google Home app), just add maybe one more speaker, I seem to have better luck streaming longer.  The problem still exists, but seems to take longer to present, many times.  Anyone else find this?... streaming concurrently on fewer devices (just one or two) seems to play nicer...?  (might also just be coincidence, but it is something I've noticed...)

I have had the issue for the last few weeks. Strangely it will play on a google nest speaker but not on my hub nor on any of my wifi points.

Since my last reply a couple of weeks ago, things have continued to play a bit nicer, but issues persist. I'm having much better luck getting the stream started. I am finding consistently, however, that if I'm streaming to just one speaker, it seems to work well for an extended period of time. As soon as I add my other four speakers to the stream, I have issues. The past three mornings in a row, i streamed Sirius XM for well over an hour on one speaker without issue. As soon as I added my other four, it cut out within 60 seconds. It did come back in 15 or 20 seconds later, but then went out again, and continued to do that until I stopped it. This morning, it didn't come back after it cut out a couple of times.

This has been going on for several weeks. I have seven speakers (Mini, Insignia, JBL, Lenovo) and all responded perfectly to voice commands for quite a while. They will still respond to commands to broadcast, for Pandora, TuneIn and others. But when I make a command to play a SiriusXM channel, the speaker repeats the command and then goes silent. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Home and Google Assistant and SiriusXM. I have turned off VPN. I can cast from one speaker to another and from my phone, but direct commands for SiriusXM always fail.  This is clearly a widespread problem. Please fix it.

I’m wondering if the issue is with SiriusXM maybe.  Gettin real tired of not being able to listen to Sirius at home!

Just found this thread.  SiriusXM on our Google Home Hub Max has become completely unstable.  Channels will play for a bit then just stop.  Tonight the hub rebooted in the middle of playing.  I hope the issue can be pinpointed and we get a fix soon.

Still having issues.  The Nest Hubs will say "Streaming Radio Margaritaville from Sirius XM" but then silence.

I am experiencing the same.  My Echo Dot works fine with SiriusXM.  But the Google Nest just stopped working around late December.

This is still an issue - hopefully a firmware update will help??

It is now the end of February 2024 and this issue has not been resolved since December 2023. I'd like to know what Google nest is planning to do about this. I've exhausted all my communication with Sirius XM about this. I'd like to know if Google is going to take action. Please let us know right away. And Google has also been non-responsive. I've been trying to communicate with a live operator but there's no way of doing so I will end though I would like to have this resolved quickly. Otherwise I will have no choice than to report both Google and Sirius XM to the Better Business Bureau of California. Thank you.

SiriusXM gave a $25 credit for my trouble.  The person at SiriusXM said her company is trying to figure out a new update.  However, I'm a former IT programmer, and these customer support people have no clue.  Maybe reporting the two companies is a good idea.  But, enough of us have to do it.  We're Samson and they're Goliath.
