Next Hub for mom, a senior without a phone or tablet ...need advice

ScullyDoogan

I just bought my very elderly mom a Next Hub Max.  She never learned how to use any sort of mobile technology, lives in an assisted living facility hundreds of miles away, and is missing out on lots of key grandchild and life moments because of it.  We intend to use it solely for video chatting and photo sharing.  Can I add her to my Home account and treat this device like another location, or do I need to set it up under her Google account (I created a Google Account for her)?  If it's the later, can I use my phone to do it, even though I have my own Google account?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

David S

DAVID!  you should return this device. It will break before you know it and I bet you paid quite alot for it.  I would get the Echo 5 or 8.  They are much cheaper and will last you!  Again, I suggest returning it if you can!

Hi ScullyDoogan,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I know how important it is to be connected with your loved ones. You can do the second one. You sure can use your phone to do it, you just need to add her account in the Google Home app when setting up her device. Check the steps below on how to add another user.

  1. Open Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap the account profile (your profile photo or initial).
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to the Google Home or Google Nest device. To switch accounts, tap the drop-down menu pic of downward-pointing carrotand then select another account or Add another account.
  4. Follow the in-app process.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Juni
