No longer able to set an alarm on insignia voice speaker NS-CSPGASP

terrytad

The insignia speaker in question is probably four or five years old.
The speaker has Google assistant on it. Just recently unable to set an alarm.  Google response to trying to set alarm “sorry what’s the day and time”.  This feature has worked fine for years.

The Google assistant responds to all other function as it has in the past.

I have reset the speaker, reinstalled it on Google Home, restarted Wi-Fi, etc.
Any assistance is appreciated

Hey folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues setting up an alarm on your Insignia speakers. Please note that we have very limited support for third-party speakers with built-in Google Assistants. Since rebooting and resetting the device did not resolve the issue, it is best to reach out to Insignia Support for better assistance.

Cheers,

Muddi

I was able to set up an alarm this morning so I hope is a definite fix🤞🏼 they finally cared for their customers

Working correctly for us here too now!
I checked, and the firmware versions on the device have not changed, so this was defenitly a fix by Google on the backend.

Thank you Google for fixing this!

Mine still doesn't work.

Working here for the last few days as well.  Thank you for giving this attention.  Just hope if something like this happens again there is some acknowledgement that the issue is being worked on.  I had given up.  Even the recommended answer still points toward Insignia.......

Well, it was good while it lasted. My Insignia Google Home Speaker is malfunctioning again (March 10, 2024).

If I say at 11 a.m. today, "Hey Google, set an alarm for 6 p.m.," It will respond, "OK, your alarm is set for 6 p.m., but it flashes 8 p.m. So, at what time is the alarm going to go off -- 6 or 8 p.m.?

Earlier today, I had asked it the same thing, and it said, "your alarm is set for 6 p.m. tomorrow."

So, something is definitely going on. I hope Google fixes this soon.

Well, last night I set my alarm for 7 a.m., and my Insignia speaker said my alarm was set for 7 and started flashing "7:00." A second later, it flashed "8:00." This morning, the alarm went off at 7, and then again at 8.

Like a built-in snooze alarm, I guess.  😝

Hi,

Mine started working normal again about a week ago, and it wakes me up at the correct time. I never noticed the flashing clock though, I usually don't look at it. I hope yours is working normally again.

Same here. You have to say your timezone too. Also if you say alarm and mean timer it will set if for the next day.

Mine worked normal for a week. Now I have to go back to the weird "day after today" work around because it was only doing AM alarms and usually off set by 5 hours. "Google snooze" command also stopped working recently. The "I'm awake" command also messes up and will just play morning news over the alarm sound until I tell it "stop". Not sure why I'm still using it honestly.

My alarm function is working but none of the alarm off functions are working now.........   I had used "hey google, alarm off" or "alarm stop" but none of these work now.  Really has become more of a pain than needed.  My other google items work fine with these commands FYI

Same for me since a few days back.. setting alarms work great, but I have to pull out the power cord to turn alarm off.. wife is not happy ..

Just saying STOP works for us, but saying "hey Google, stop" fails.

Simply say Stop without saying hey google.

Snoozing also not working now, too.

I've noticed that too.

Here we go again! My Insignia home speaker can no longer set an alarm. Last night I asked it, "Hey Google, set an alarm for 7 a.m." It's reply was, "Sorry, I don't understand."

Google must've done something to screw this up again.

Please fix this, Google!

Same here. Furthermore adding the time zone does not help.

In addition they have now also broken calendar queries. My morning routine would tell me what my agenda for the day was and not it too responds with "I don't understand", just like alarms.

I have given up on Google. I replaced them with Alexa's. If Google isn't going to support their infrastructure, I'm not going to support them.

Yep, mine would not accept any known command that I have used for setting an alarm.  Tried "Ok, Google. Set an alarm for 7AM."; "Ok, Google. Set an alarm for tomorrow at 7AM."; ""Ok, Google. Set an alarm for Tuesday at 7AM."; ""Ok, Google. Set an alarm for 7AM Eastern Standard Time."; "Ok, Google. Set an alarm for the day after today at 7AM."; etc.  Nothing worked.

Also, snoozing hasn't worked for a couple of weeks.

Help, Google!!

Same here, buggers

Mine has stopped responding completely. It can perform some GHome functions ... but it will not answer questions like, "Will it rain later today."

No alarm set here either.  It will still control my Home devices to turn off lights.

Glad I'm not the only one.  Says "I didn't understand" to setting an alarm or timer... but will respond to "Hey Google, I farted"!  Yes that was my middle schooler who asked that.  Her response was quite humorous.

This feels like Google's passive way of saying... "Hey user, Go upgrade to the latest and greatest!  Our server side changes are not backwards compatible and we have no commitment to supporting these old third party devices.".  I've already started scouring eBay for used Nest minis.  I really don't want the nest hubs in my kids' rooms... but having something that displays a time would be great without all the other bells and whistles.

I have three of these Insignia speakers and have gifted them to others in my family years ago.  I really liked them, but Google never supported the firmware on these, Insignia did.  But Insignia stopped supporting the firmware many years ago.  It is unreasonable for me to expect Google to support an API for firmware that hasn't been updated or patched in so many years.  They have fixed many things on these after they put in back-end changes that have caused issues.  I'm impressed that they have done as well as they have.  Of course I wish that they made a similar replacement.

Also not able to make alarms. All my kids were late to school. Google ate my alarm clock!

It works for me to break it into two commands. First say the day: set an alarm for Wednesday. Okay what time? 8:00 a.m. there your alarm is set.

cameraz

Thank you for this. It works. But what a pain. It's like two steps now instead of one.

Google, please fix this!

Jeffreysleong

Works like normal for me again... "Ok Google, set alarm for 6am." It responded like usual and set the alarm.

Yes! It's working again. Thanks.

So maybe this is Google's passive way of saying, "Hey user, just checking to see if you're still paying attention"!

Yep ours worked perfectly last night.

I always use Eastern Standard Time after the command to set an alarm and it works every time. Of course you would have to use whatever time zone you are in instead of eastern.

Here we go again. Tonite my Insignia home speaker again stopped being able to set an alarm. No matter what I say, it responds "Sorry, I don't understand."

Google, please fix this.

Suzyanne

Same with mine

yes, ours too, back to square one.

Even the workaround of specifying a time zone does not work either.

Me too. Started a couple nights ago. Good grief

Same here since Tuesday

So I asked my Insignia speaker, "Hey Google, how do I set an alarm?"

The response was, "To set an alarm, say set an alarm for 6 a.m."

So I said, "Hey Google, set an alarm for 6 a.m."

The response was, "Sorry, I don't understand that." 😖

Exactly! They know what they did. Cornering the market by making the products we bought obsolete. Illegal but true.
