I have always been able to play BBC radio stations on my Home Hub by asking 'play radio 4', but today it just responds 'i can't do that on here'. What has changed?

Hey everyone,
I have some great news to share! This issue on BBC Radio should now be resolved. You can now go back to listening to your favorite BBC station on your speakers/display as normal. If for some reason you’re still experiencing problems, please try rebooting your devices to refresh the settings.
Cheers,
Muddi

Looks like this is a known issue the BBC are aware of and investigating.

I have this problem too. Can't listen to radio 4 extra .....

It must be something to do with the Google devices and specific apps as we're having the same problem in Australia with Radio App. The problem started a few days ago and gets the same message "I can't do that here but you can ask me to play it on one of your other devices"

Is anyone doing anything about not been able to play radio 2 on my nest???? Other people are complaining as well
04-07-2023 10:28 AM
Yes, and it's all bbc radio stations. I'm totally exasperated by Google seeming lack of interest considering SO many people are complaining. Not a comment about what's going on or being done to rectify. COME ON GOOGLE SORR THIS OUT.....
04-07-2023 11:30 AM
I'm also exasperated . No radio 4 and no help from their helpline.
04-09-2023 03:26 AM
yes I agree we should all bombard them with our complaints its not good enough Google just say sorry we are looking into it Grrrrrr

When do you expect this to be fixed?

This is a very, very major issue for UK users. Can't believe it's taking this long to sort

Still not working for me.

Over the last week my Google Nest speakers will not play any BBC Radio channels.
On the odd occasion it will play them but mostly not! Help! I love BBC Radio 2!
Thanks.

I've had the same issue with BBC Asian Network in the last few days for some reason. Tested with other BBC radio stations, same problem but anything else no problem at all. Something to do with BBC
04-09-2023 05:40 AM
I also have the same problem. Very annoying as I listen to the radio nearly all day!

It's a known issue but has not yet been fixed. See this long thread:

I would highlight that there is no issue with the Alexas in our house playing the BBC!!!!
04-10-2023 12:21 AM
Do you have any news to share yet, as I am having problems listening to BBC radio as well.
04-10-2023 12:59 AM
I’m having the same problem. I’m unable to get BBC radio stations. When will this be fixed?
04-10-2023 01:15 AM
Hi there - any news on when this fix will be in place? Still not working for me
04-10-2023 01:18 AM
2 of my devices will still play BBC radio on request but one won't, I think probably the older version. The thing on my phone that usually shows what's being cast has also disappeared so seems more likely to be a Google problem than a bbc problem.
04-10-2023 01:40 AM
Where is the answer for this please. It's driving us mad. We've reset it a couple of times and still can't get BBC Radio 2
04-10-2023 01:47 AM
It's still not working for me too.
04-10-2023 02:27 AM
Hi there - is there a timetable for a fix?
04-10-2023 02:34 AM
Hi
my 3 smart speakers have not been working for a few days do you have any idea when the problem will be resolved.
04-10-2023 02:44 AM
Hi, any update on this. I also cannot get BBC radio anymore. I tried turning it on and off and also logging in and out of bbc sounds.
04-10-2023 02:53 AM
BBC is not listed as a source for news on my home app
04-10-2023 03:25 AM
This is affecting not only our household but also my elderly parents who listen and rely on local BBC radio a lot - only via Google.
Also - I'm not so sure this is a BBC problem, I ask Google to 'Play Triple J Radio' (an Australian station) and I get the exact same "I can't do that here.." response.
04-10-2023 03:57 AM
Same here. Was a problem about a week ago, then it cleared now it’s back “I can’t do that here but you can ask me to play it on one of your other devices”. I have 5 devices, hubs and speakers and they all give the same message

FWIW confirming what I read earlier that this problem appears to be on the Google side and is related to permissions.
The 'owner' of your Google home can do the "hey Google play BBC radio 4" etc, but other members of the house get the "Sorry I can't do that yet".
I wish we hadn't used my wife's phone to setup our home 😂
04-10-2023 04:30 AM
I'm the 'owner' of our Google house and it doesn't work for me or anyone in our house. Neither for either of my parents at their house.
04-10-2023 04:36 AM
Yeah - same. I tried a different voice and just got the same message. Google don'r seem to be doing anything about it at all! The last message from them on here is days ago, my two hubs are totally useless to me without BBC stations.

Wish it was so simple! I set everything up myself, it recognises my voice and yet it won’t play BBC for me. This “owner” isn’t being obeyed!
Since some different users on the same device (so same network, same network ID,, same software, etc) can get different results, it must be in some way user-account related.
However, I haven’t seen anything yet to convince me as to whether it is related to the Google or the BBC account.
One report was that it was working for a Google One account holder, but not for his (not subscribed) wife - that is the only Google account datapoint I have noted, but it could be coincidence.
Hopefully, after the Bank Holiday, someone appropriate at Google will be able to contact someone appropriate at the BBC and the issue will be swiftly resolved. But if they each insist on looking at the problem individually, it could take a while, even if it gets prioritised.

Smart speaker is pretty useless… I won’t be buying another Google product!
04-10-2023 05:43 AM
Now the 10th April and I still have the same problem. Seems BBC has also acknowledged there is an issue but seems to think it mainly affects international listeners. I'm in the UK - or was the last time I looked out of the window. Please can you give an update on progress please? My one Alexa is working fine and I may be tempted to switch all my Google kit out.

When is this problem going to be fixed?
04-10-2023 08:17 AM
Hi.
By now it is evident that this is a widespread problem. Could you provide an informative update - even if it is just some diagnosis? It would be educational to understand WHY this has happened even if Google and the BBC have not yet resolved the issue and generated a solution. For example:
"The problem is that BBC radio broadcasts have started to be broadcast on the XXXX service which Google no longer supports/ does not yet support"
or
"Google no longer accesses BBC Sounds since it is now too expensive/technically complex"
I guess I just find it hard to believe you (Google/BBC) don't yet know WHAT the problem is. If so, can you please share with us all? It might significantly reduce our collective frustration.
