Hey everyone,

I understand the ongoing frustration many of you are experiencing regarding the issue of not being able to play RTE Stations on TuneIn with your devices for some time now. Rest assured the team is aware of this issue and looking into this with our relevant partner. I know this may not be the answer you're looking for at the moment, but once we have new information to share, I'll update this thread.

If you haven't sent feedback, please do so by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: "GHT3 Unable to stream <RTE radio station> in TuneIn"

We appreciate your patience.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi all, the ongoing issue with any RTE radio channels on TuneIn in persistent and really frustrating. It hasn't been reliable for months now and is continuing not to work on any device. We have 5 minis a display and just purchased a new large one, after update still not working.

Is it an RTE issue or Google. Can't even case to a speaker from the RTE app.

IRMG

Tunein says its a google issue

I'm also having a problem playing rte radio stations on my Google nest speakers.  Google stopped playing RTE on Friday 10th out of the blue. Haven't had any issue with this before. Plays fine on my phone, can't cast to a speaker and google devices try to stream the station but fail

I see there have been other threads on RTE not playing - how was this resolved? Firmware update or is it a content licensing issue?

"Unable to play all RTE stations on TuneIn"  Appears to be a reaccurance of the issue from last September/October.

Why can’t I play RTÉ radio 1 from tune in

I’m having the same problem. All other stations seem ok

Hi Claire,

You are not alone! This was a problem in March 2022 as well (see previous posts).

This time (for me) when I ask any of my google speakers to play RTE Radio 1, initially I get the usual response "Streaming RTE Radio 1 from tune in" followed by "Sorry something went wrong, when you are ready, give it another try". I have been giving it another try for nearly a week hoping that someone will fix the problem, but nobody has! None of the other RTE Radio channels I have tried are working either e.g. RTE Radio 2 FM or RTE Lyric FM.

Yet all the other Radio Channels work without any difficulty on Tune In, even Radio Perth (as an example) at the other side of the world!!!  Is there anyone working for RTE or Tune In tuned in to this problem???

Not working for me either. Will send feedback later

I've sent feedback and I just want to know when this will be fixed.  I got rid of the radio in the kitchen and had to do MUCH persuading to my wife that the Google Nest was a good idea.

Any expected fix timeline @Muddi

I received an email from RTÉ yesterday (14th March 2023) happily stating that it’s nothing to do with them instead of speaking with Google, TuneIn to just get it resolved. All these outages started when RTÉ produced their revised app a couple of years ago, since then the system is totally unreliable.

This is the response I got from Tunein this morning. Sounds like RTE won’t be available anytime soon. Google and Tunein are very unreliable.. time to change platforms.

Hi There,

Thank you for your response. We do apologize for the issue you have been experiencing.

However, this problem is still recognized by Google and our developers. We're presently collaborating to find a solution, and our goal is to have it repaired in a future version. There is no timeline for when the problem will be fixed, but we appreciate your patience as we try to find a solution.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, and we appreciate your support of TuneIn!

Oh for crying out loud.  Why is there no other way that we can specify a platform to play radio stations on Google Nest?  If it won't play RTE stations, then why can't we use RadioPlayer without having to Cast my phone???

Dbullock

The Google platform just isn't very good. This is not the first time Radio stations have been unavailable .. it happens a few times every year.. this is one of the longer outages. Another bug bear of ours is we changed the Google voice to be male and sometimes it is and sometimes it's not .. It just inconsistent , unreliable and sloppy software.  I'm going to experiment with getting an old Android phone up and running with Alexa on it and leave that connected to the Google Home Speaker via bluetooth until we settle on a new platform to move away from Google to. Alexa and Siri have no problem playing RTE or any other radio station via Tunein.

Splat75

It's the fact it defaults to TuneIn and there is no other way to play a radio station without casting (defeats the purpose of the machine in that case I could just use a speaker!).

I have tried Google Support but the chap there is adamant that "Google does not use TuneIn" 🙄

Splat75

So the person on support finally told me that in Ireland, TuneIn is set to be the default radio player and it can't be changed.  This doesn't appear to be the case in other countries, where they can specify the radio player to use.

The customer service person told me that he couldn't comment on the specific reason as to why this is.

Therefore, I would suggest to everyone to put feedback in to Google using the app to see if we can specify the app to use to play the radio station

I have rte radio app on my phone and can't see why google can't play from that source?? Why does it have to be tunein? Furthermore tunein isn't the only radio player. We should be able to switch to another source when there is some glitch. That would sort a lot of issues out. Why do we even need a radio app, there are live broadcasting streams all over the internet. Apps only throw us unwanted ads. Shake up the experience and take it to the next level. 💡

I got lyric fm going this evening by casting it from the Radio FM app. Otherwise still not working via tunein

RTE radio 1 works for me tonight

JCKe

Working for me as well. I suppose we can call them 'smart'speakers again? After a week of no service, I would expect at the very least to receive an explanation from whoever corrected the problem, what caused it and some reassurance that it is unlikely to happen again ???

Hello,

Nest isn’t playing any of the RTÉ Radio stations (Radio 2, Lyric Fm, Radio na Gaeltachta). When I ask to play it just says “”streaming RTÉ radio 2 from tune in” the  very shortly after it says “something went wrong, when you are ready give it another try”

It has been doing this for 2 days now.

I have tried CorksRED FM and 96FM and they work fine, just seems to be RTÉ radio.

anyone else dealing with the same thing?

Same here, Lyric not working via TuneIn on Google speaker.

I have exactly the same problem. TuneIn plays RTE on my phone, but won't cast to the Nest either. Tried a reboot but no change

Seems to be basically everyone in Ireland with a google home device has same issue

Hi all,

I'll escalate this over to the Community Specialists here. Could be a TuneIn issue so do let their support channels know as well.

Make sure Google, Google Home and the TuneIn apps are all up to date.

Thanks for reporting!

Jill

Same issue here. Clearly not just a TuneIn issue as it's also not possible to cast RTE radio channels from the RTE Radio app. More likely an issue with the compatibility of RTE streams. I've contacted RTE. They're now sending out this generic response:

"These issues are something we're aware of and we have been liaising with these third-party providers (Google, TuneIn, Apple) to identify what has changed and what resolution can be reached. Unfortunately, we have no information or timeline for a fix "
