Hey everyone,

I understand the ongoing frustration many of you are experiencing regarding the issue of not being able to play RTE Stations on TuneIn with your devices for some time now. Rest assured the team is aware of this issue and looking into this with our relevant partner. I know this may not be the answer you're looking for at the moment, but once we have new information to share, I'll update this thread.

If you haven't sent feedback, please do so by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: "GHT3 Unable to stream <RTE radio station> in TuneIn"

We appreciate your patience.

Cheers,

Muddi

I’ve seen similar threads to this in 2022. I use the same phrase to play “RTÉ Radio 1 on Downstairs” every morning. Last week total silence no matter how I said Play RTÉ Radio 1 on tunein, or  Play RTÉ Radio 1 r any combination nothing worked. I’ve just completely reinstalled all the Google hub and speakers to a new home. Still nothing. I can play Newstalk, LBC London, in fact anything except the one I or more importantly my wife wants to hear. Helllpppp

I'm having similar issues.  Trying to play RTE Radio 1 or RTE Gold, it seems to have previously automatically gone to TuneIn but that's just not loading now and I can't see how to fix it

Its actually beyond ridiculous how this keeps happening

When this happened before I contacted Google, they blamed everyone else and had me calling RTÉ various departments just not accepting that they had a problem themselves. I have an Amazon Alexa system works every time never had an issue so it’s not RTÉ it’s a Google problem.

I also contacted TuneIn on Google’s advice

UPDATE SUNDAY 13:15 email from tuneIn tech support. “Google and RTÉ are aware of the problem regarding playing RTÉ Radio 1 and are working together to resolve the problem.” No date for resolving given.

I emailed Tunein and RTE also.

Tunein replied as per below

Thank you for contacting TuneIn support. My name is Akeem and I'll be more than happy to assist you today.

We do apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing while streaming your favorite station.

We can confirm that Google are aware of the issue, because we have other user with the same issue when streaming the station through their Google Nest Hub devices. So therefore, Google is aware of the issue and is working on a solution. There're working to resolve the problem and hope to have it fixed in an upcoming release.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with anything else.

Thank you for making it TuneIn.

Sincerely,
Akeem C

Akeem that’s a similar response I got this morning the more people who contact TuenIn they in turn will put pressure on Google and RTÉ to resolve. I also spoke to RTÉ in Dublin and Contacted Google Support they both blamed each other. I believe it’s RTÉ that have caused the problem they think that everyone should not listen to their radio via their own app. It’s like talking to dinosaurs.

Like an awful lot of people, I am having the same issue with RTE radio and TuneIn. Other Irish radio continues to work fine with TuneIn.

The Irish Radio Player android app does allow you to stream RTE radio from your phone.

It is much slower to start, but once it works, it works.

IRMG

Im not Akeem but yeah Tunein are blaming google on this

JCKe

I am of the opinion that Tune In are correct as everything else works except RTE Radio Stations and Google smart (?) devices. There is no problem playing any RTE Radio Station through Tune In on my computer so it has to be a Google (Nest, Home and Hub problem). It is unbelievable why this hasn't been fixed yet. What are the Google Support Team doing about this except telling us that "our team is looking into this issue at hand". How long will this ridiculous situation continue???

Just off a chat session with Google support. “ I will add your case to the user affected list. Rest assured Google engineers are working on this with Tunein as it’s an integration issue” .. I’m of the opinion that google aren’t really working on this as not enough users have complained to them via support so it’s down on a list to be looked at .. sometime.

This is shocking. Seriously, am I able to get a refund on my google nest devices? It is redundant in our house. I have to wonder why I just didn't buy a radio.

Can we please get a fix or at the very least an ETA?

Same thoughts here, this is at least the third time in last few years. They take no notice they actually know what the problem is as they have corrected it before. Not user focused at all. RTÉ, Google and TuneIn all pass the problem and deny it’s their fault. Conference call between all three of them needed asap. I’ve no radios here any more only smart speakers.

A workaround for anyone with a Windows laptop/PC: you can play RTE from the website and cast the audio from the laptop to the Nest (you can find the cast option on the three dots menu of the browser). This works for me because my laptop has thinny speakers and the sound is far better on the Nest. Still, I would prefer if the issue was fixed, and fixed once and for all...

Tried that already that doesn’t work for me with Apple products.

Same here, no rte  on nest....but works on phone

I last experienced this problem in March 2022 and it was only with RTE Radio services and my Google speakers

This time the problem (for me) is when I ask any of my google speakers to play RTE Radio 1 I get the usual response "Streaming RTE Radio 1 from tune in" followed by "Sorry something went wrong, when you are ready, give it another try". I have been giving it another try for nearly a week now hoping that someone will fix the problem, but nobody has! None of the other RTE Radio channels I have tried are working either e.g. RTE Radio 2 FM or RTE Lyric FM.

Yet all the other Radio Channels work without any difficulty on Tune In, even Radio Perth (as an example) at the other side of the world!!!  Is there anyone working for RTE or Tune In or more to the point GOOGLE, tuned in to this problem??? No problem playing RTE through Tune In on my computer so it has to be a Google Home problem. It baffles me why this hasn't been fixed yet.

It seems Google are watching as they requested feedback via the Google Display using a specific phrase.
your experience is exactly the same as mine and this is the third time it’s happened since owning the system. Their backup and support is fairly useless as it’s happened before they should know the fix.

Limpete

Yep there must be a way to tell them about the problem.... Unless you know how to really contact them it seems they don't care

Hi All

Is anybody else finding that over the last week all RTE Ireland radio stations are not playing when asked on google speakers?  Please note that all other stations are working ok on my smart speaker

Same problem here

Yes I have this problem also. When I go to rte on my iPhone using the TuneIn app I can listen no problem but as soon as I attempt to cast through google nest it will not broadcast

Hi All

Just got this encouraging update in from RTE Support this morning assuring me that all are working on a solution

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: Google speaker - RTE radio stations not working

Hi Charles,

Thanks for getting in touch.

These issues are something we're aware of and we have been liaising with these third-party providers (Google, TuneIn, Apple) to identify what has changed and what resolution can be reached. Unfortunately, we have no information or timeline for a fix.

Thanks.

my google nest wont play rte radio stations, why? Told it is a software issue with itunes? Told supplier only can fix this? Seen this has been an issue since mid 2022!

Fallen_Angel

My guess is that's a TuneIn/RTÉ issue as my Google Nest does play other Irish radio stations like East Coast FM and Galway Bay FM via TuneIn.
My Squeezebox also stopped playing RTÉ radio stations a couple of days ago. TuneIn Radio is the leading radio tuner that powers Squeezebox players.

Nest mini won't connect toRTE radio stations but it will connect others e.g. Today FM. This is a new connection issue as it did play RTE 2FM before.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you!

This is happening to me too.  It's so frustrating! No one seems to be coming up with a solution although it has happened on many occasions before.
