Routines vanish from home hub

Mjcmitchell
Community Member

I have three home hubs — some (but not all) custom routines have recently vanished from all of them. All routines visible on phone and iPad and all work using voice. Newly created routines do not show up on hubs. Two users in our house but I am the only user to create routines. EDIT: Have reset one hub to factory and reinstalled — no difference. Have checked language settings on all devices I use. Have never been changed.

For anyone else with this issue I found a fix - which may help isolate the error.

If a routine is ONLY controlling lights, it does not appear on the Nest Hub/Smart Displays

So what I did was I went into the routines that were not showing and added an action.
Add action --> try adding your own --> "okay"
By adding a custom action with just "okay" as the action, the routines now show up on my smart display.

If you have a specific routine not showing up on your Smart Display, try adding an action to the end of it and see if that fixes it.

I have the same issue on my nest hub (1st gen). Even though routines work just fine by voice and show up in my phones (all 3 of them - Android & IOS), they do not show up in the routines tab on the nest hub.

Can someone please help or advise if the issue can be fixed via an update?

Same here. I have Nest hub (1st gen) and  it only have two routines (bedtime and good morning). Google home app on my Android has almost 20 routines. Couple days ago all routines were shown at nest hub but not anymore

Hey there,
Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand this issue can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help. I just have a few clarifying questions

  • Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this?
  • If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?
  • How long has it been since you noticed this was happening?
  • What current firmware are you on?
  • Also is this affecting only Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max?

Please let me know.

Best regards,
Garrett DS

Yes this is still an issue, I await overdue call Ticket

Please read conversation and ask supplementaries as required, but in brief 3x Hub 1st gen  Software35.34.10.374969784 cast firmware 1.52.272481 os 1.20210119.2.1390079

Hi,

- Routines are gone so of course we need help with this!!

- Google Home app on my phone has almost 20 routines and they are working just fine. But for some reason almost all these routines vanished from Google Nest Hub (not max). They used to be there but they just vanished. At the moment there are only three routines at Nest Hub: Bedtime, Good morning and Help me leave on time

- It is about 2-3 weeks ago when I noticed this (my original post is from 2 weeks ago)

- I don't know how can I troubleshoot this. I have rebooted the Nest Hub and tried to sync devices but nothing has fixed the issue.

- Here is info what I found from Nest Hub (about device info)

Software version: 35.34.10.374969784

Cast Firmware Version: 1.52.275919

Operating System Version: 1.20210119.2.1390099

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the information. I have sent this to our engineering team to have them investigate this. In the meantime I would encourage you to try the workaround that Mjcmitchell provided as well to see if that works for you.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Sorry, what workaround have I provided? The only ‘workaround’ I know is to use voice —- which isn’t a workaround! I have taken some trouble to provide information, create a new account, reset a hub, reinstall etc —- I’d appreciate a bit more info than use a workaround which I don’t think exists!

I was just going to tell the same. Nice workaround if it doesn't work 🙂

Maybe we could also check that is the power cord connected.

Routines are vanished! Some Nest update broke that feature and I want them back. I don't won't to create new google account because current account is working just fine.

Or maybe you could send me a new hub and I try it with my current google account and after that I can tell you did that fix the issue 🙂

So acting on advice from support, I just set up a new Gmail account, hard reset the hub, re-added it using the new gmail —- now only three prebuilt routines appear although voice commands work as usual. Can add routines using the new account but they don’t appear.

I also have this issue, happened a few weeks ago, reset the hub, set it up again, no change. routines work fine in home app.

Same here, routines not visible, exist in home app on phone. tried changing countries, languages and resetting device, nothing works.

All, I just received this from Google — it doesn’t describe the problem behaviour as you can see, but it’s worth a shot. “Just give this command to all of your Google Nest Hub speakers, "Hey Google, send feedback" then state "Routine icon is not showing on display". This will go directly to our Software Engineers for review. Monitor this behavior in the next few days after you submitted the feedback”

I have done this (despite the clear problem with the feedback) and wil see what occurs.

Hi there,

Our engineering team came back to me with the request that you provide feedback reports so that a bug ticket can be created for the issue. Please follow the following steps.

1. Turn on device usage data and crash reports:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app .
  2. Select the Nest Hub device card to share feedback about.
  3. At the top-right, select Settings  and then Recognition and sharing.
  4. Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)
  5. Note: For iOS devices, turn on Send device usage and crash reports.

2. Reproduce the issue (access the routines page on the Nest Hub device). Then send feedback from the Nest Hub device via voice command (OK Google, send feedback) then say the keywords "GHT3 Routines disappear from Nest display".

Please let me know once you've done that so that I can let the engineering team know so they can start reviewing those reports to create a bug ticket.

Happy Holidays,

Garrett DS

I have done this,.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for sending in those feedback reports as they have definitely helped.
Our engineering team has tested this and they are not able to reproduce the issue unfortunately. They did receive a similar case last week and was able to find out that routines that are not showing on the Nest display are the ones that do not have actions in them and if the routine is for a specific device (home automation partner) that doesn't exist anymore. (e.g. a routine to control a light bulb that is no longer existing, or routine that has an action to control a scene has been deleted, etc.)

Please double check those things in your routines as well, and let me know if that is not the case.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

This is not the case
For example I have a routine called "front lights off" that turns off the 4 lights that are near my entrance door. This routine is used almost daily by me, however it does not appear on the Nest routines, only in my google home routines.
I have 7 of 11 routines that work and that I use appearing on my nest hub. the other 4 are missing

I found a fix - which may help isolate the error.

Well noted! I have send my feedback as per your above. Come on guys let's try and fix this. Google displays have the edge on Alexa products, let's not start losing now..

I've done this also. Nest didn't understood me correctly so the message was "GHT 3 Routine disappear from Nest display".

(Space between t and 3 and routine not routines. Hopefully that is ok)

same issue. feedback submitted

Only a select few routines appear on the nest display

For anyone else with this issue I found a fix - which may help isolate the error.

If a routine is ONLY controlling lights, it does not appear on the Nest Hub/Smart Displays

If you have a specific routine not showing up on your Smart Display, try adding an action to the end of it and see if that fixes it.

Many thanks for the solution! It seems to me that for the routines to work, they need any custom action (with any word, not just okay). So, all the vanishing routines were just routines with actions such as turning ON lights or plugs, without any custom wording of our own.

Hope Google fixes this, because who knows how deep the problem goes..

Yep just adding any action to the end of the routine seems to work, "okay" was just the example I used/gave

Hey there,

Thanks to jamal01 for the workaround. I have sent this information to our engineering team so that they can look further into this issue and look at making some changes on their end. I will keep this thread open for 24 more hours to see if there are any other questions or issues.

Please let me know if there is anything else.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Thank you @jamal01 for finding this work-around, as Google (as usual) is incapable to listen customers and apply fixes in timely manner (if ever).

If you allow me to chime in, if you are like me and rather "silent" routines, instead of "Okay" (or anything else) on "Say Something" action, you can type an space. After triggering the routine on your Hub (that will continue be shown), the output will be quiet 🙂

Nice, I actually did not use the "say something" but rather did the "try adding your own" action - so even though I type okay it does not do or say anything 🙂

I see! Yap, that does make sense. Even though you clearly say "add your own", I mistakenly thought it was "say something" 😕

You are a lifesaver!  Just did that and now all my routines are appearing on my Nest Hub.

Thanks a million!  😀👍🏽👍🏽

Yay! Glad it worked for you as well. I find with these "smart" devices, there's a lot of finding hacks/workaround as they barely ever seem to fix things! Alexa and Google both!

Mjcmitchell

Yup —- that works. Thanks for doing the work. Of course it doesn’t reveal what’s actually going on and whether there are other inconsistencies which will bite us later, but that’s for Google to deal with. I wonder if they will? Thanks again,
