Setup google hub max

windsurfer
Community Member

I am setting up my Nest hub max I needed to connect to a different home network.

I reset the hub and I went through the setup and all went well until i got a message Your nest hub was succesfully setup but can't be found (Now there is a contradicting statement). I am hooked up to the same network.

The ap isolation was not enabled in my router so i guess my favorite saying ( nothing is easy with Google) is coming true.

What would be the solution here ?

That error essentially means your phone cannot communicate properly with your Nest Hub Max.

Try these steps:
Need help with setup? Troubleshoot common Google N… - Google Nest Community

My phone was communicating with my phone and tablet just fine. From what i can tell is that the hub max won't work on a 5G network, as soon as i switched back to 2.4 everything fell into place.

Sorry

Hello everyone,

@David_K, thank you for the assistance that you provided.

@windsurfer, thanks for reaching out. Please answer the following: what country are you from? Were you able to connect your Google Nest Hub Max to your 5 GHz before? If yes, when did this issue start? What's your Internet service provider?

Awaiting for your response.

Best,
Lovely

Hi windsurfer51,

Sorry for the delayed response and thanks for the detailed response. If you haven't already, please configure the following Wi-Fi router settings:

  • Enable: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), multicast, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
  • Disable: AP / client isolation, virtual private networks (VPNs), proxy servers, IGMP Proxy. VPNs and proxy servers should be disabled (if applicable).

Keep me posted.

Cheers,
Lovely

Hi windsurfer51,

Our senior specialist asked if there's any chance that you can try setting up your Google Nest Hub Max on another Wi-Fi network. If possible, try to connect it to the 5 GHz there and let us know if the same issue comes up.

Sincerely,
Lovely

Hello there,

I totally understand that troubleshooting can be frustrating, but these are the most helpful steps to figure out what's going on with your device. Let's give them a try!

I also find it rather odd that when one wants to change the network connected to i would have to reset the hub rather than choosing from the available networks

Yes i can do that, but if i have to reset my hub i am not going to do that, so maybe you can include some instructions on how to achieve this.

Hey windsurfer51,

Chiming in, please note that you need to factory reset your Nest Hub Max first for you to set it up on a different network. Below are the steps on how to reset it:

  1. Save any important footage from your device's video history.
  2. Remove your Nest Hub Max from the Google Home app.
  3. On the back of Nest Hub Max, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub Max will let you know that it's resetting.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes well i am not willing to do that. I've done that once and that is nothing but a pain in the you know what.

My favorite saying, "Nothing is easy with Google" There should be no rerason why one can't change network without having to reset the device just like 99.9% of any other device.
