Spoken broadcast message changed to spoken message??

realjax
Community Member

So when I broadcast a  spoken message to other devices in the house, the nest devices start to analyse the message and then change it to a spoken message using the google voice.  I know this sounds absurd and that is exactly what it is.  Why on earth would you want to change a spoken message into a.... spoken message??? Which 9 out of 10 times is wrong as well!! How do I turn this 'feature' off and prevent the home devices from trying to analyse spoken broadcast messages??

Hey everyone,

Great news! I'm thrilled to inform you that the broadcasting issue has been resolved. If you're still experiencing any problems, a quick reboot of your device could help. But, if the issue persists, do let us know by updating this thread.

Cheers,

Muddi

@realjax

This happens to us only if we try to broadcast any of the messages listed under "Broadcast a preset message" in the help topic below.  For these messages, Google Assistant seems to broadcast its own message in its own voice, with music. For example, I tried "Hey Google, broadcast it's time for bed". What Google Assistant did was to broadcast "It's time to get some shuteye" in a Google Assistant voice, along with graphics and a little music on the Nest Hub.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, MplsCustomer.

realjax, thanks for reaching out. I hope you got the answer you were looking for. Currently, we don’t have the option to turn this feature off. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it. See the article below on how to do it.

@Juni

Google Nest's broadcasts are now using Google Assistant's voice for us as well.

This just changed for us as well!

So you are telling us that Google Nest:

1) Decided that it would no longer broadcast the customer's spoken voice,

2) Did NOT tell customers that it was making this change,

3) Decided to call this a "feature" (ha ha), and

4) Decided NOT to provide an option to go back to what we had previously?

Hello,

MpIsCustomer and Jimmiepens, we got your form. Our team will reach out to you via email anytime soon. Please continue the conversation there so the team can further assist you.

Best regards,
Alex

@Alex_S

This is not an individual problem, however.  It is a change in behavior that Google Nest has implemented.

You'd better email me too. I'm pretty unhappy with this downgrade.

File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Google is likely transcribing your broadcast messages.

Why on earth would you decide to implement such a ridiculous feature????

Thanks. I know how to send feedback. ive done so a gazillion times already since we, the paying users are the testers  here. And .to be honest im getting sick and tired of google home devices and the number of times functionality just breaks for months on end. Why is that? Why do you guys keep 'fixing' something that isn't broken?

No by the way. Mplscustomers answer is a close but no cigar answer. I am fully aware that some message like 'dinner' are made 'more funny' with sound effects and the like (another thing i cant switch off) but that has been around  for ages. Its not what I meant. And if you as a community specialist don't know what I am talking about I suggest you start using the google home devices yourself because you obviously do not at the moment.

@realjax

I'm just another customer. At the time of my post, all of our broadcasts were still in our own voices, except for the "preset messages", which we had never triggered until then and didn't know existed. Since then, we too are afflicted by Google Nest's new "feature" (as they call it) of substituting Google's transcribed message for our voices on ALL broadcasts.

I know you're a customer. My reply was to juni.

Does this mean our only option is to switch to Alexa?

This is an absurd response.

And share feedback EVERY TIME Google does this. EVERY TIME.

I'm afraid you are wrong. When I call my son's name, Google replaces it with a unrelated word. Emotionless;all messages are filtered through Google's ai/whatever.

It's not AI. ChatGPT is AI. Google is "voice to text" and "text to speech" engine, known since the 90s!

That's ridiculous. Broadcast is one of the most common command I use. Now, you guys make it useless. 🙄😡

Amen. Considering switching as we speak to a competitor if this isn't resolved in 30days.

Also, they assume we all speak to our families in English??

Looks like nest just made a diversity, equity, and inclusion no-no

Culturally insensitive at the very least.

Note:  have accidentally clicked a vague checkbox with which apparently I selected this as the answer. I cannot deselect that box. Typical. Anyway, it is obviously NOT an answer.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the additional information you all shared. Did you all set up a voice match? If so, try to remove it and do it again, then observe if it makes a difference. Check out the helpful link below to learn more about it.

NO it doesn't help and it is the same for the whole family - why have you messed this up?  it is VERY annoying.  Maybe time to switch while Alexa is on a black friday deal?

I was thinking the same thing!!  My brother-in-law has Alexa and if he whispers to it the response comes back in a whisper.  Outstanding feature if you live in a house with other people (like most of us probably do).

How about Google go back and fix it? Transcribing our broadcast messages in the privacy of our own homes is a privacy violation. I am sure no one asked Google to transcribe their Broadcast messages into a crappy generic voice.

File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. I can only assume that the prior issues with the pulsing lights ( in which the Google Listen mode was continuously on) and this problem is Google's attempt to harvest data without informing us. Otherwise why change things with no notification?

I have multiple speakers and displays(minis, home, hub, hub max, audio, Lenovo clock and display).  We have used the broadcast feature multiple times every day for years.  It always uses our own voice, not the assistant's voice.  Lately(a month or so), when broadcasting, the message is broadcasted in the assistant voice sometimes.  No changes to anything on our end.  Any ideas?  I have checked all the forum posts and have found nothing that works.  All speakers and displays are on the same wifi and are of the latest firmware.

@Jimmiepens

There are two other posts like this in the last couple of days:

If I test it, what you're reporting happens to us only if we try to broadcast anything that approximates the messages listed under "Broadcast a preset message" in the help topic below.

I don't know if these preset message are new or not, or whether it might explain what you're encountering.

This isnt what is happening to me.  Those preset messages have been around from the beginning I think.  There is the "time to get up", "time for dinner", and "time for bed" messages that play a little tune, or a rooster, or a dinnerbell.  The issue I am having is the assistant voice sometimes is used for broadcasting, sometimes our voice.  And it is any and all types of messages.

@Jimmiepens

Well, then since yours is the third post on this, maybe Google Nest has changed something without telling anyone.

Mine is doing this too! It happened all is the sudden I’ve the past week. Everything is broadcasting in the Google assistants voice now. It’s driving me crazy because I can’t tell which of my kids is trying to talk to me!! Why is this happening?!

I have already done this.  It didn't work.  Also, if this was the case, I would think that it would happen all the time.  This is intermittent.

If Google has taken away the ability to broadcast our own voice through messages I want a refund for every single speaker I purchased since it was the only reason I needed as many as I purchased. If a feature has been removed the product I purchased is no longer what I aid for. How do I go about returning and getting a refund for our 6 speakers?
