Spoken broadcast message changed to spoken message??

realjax
Community Member

So when I broadcast a  spoken message to other devices in the house, the nest devices start to analyse the message and then change it to a spoken message using the google voice.  I know this sounds absurd and that is exactly what it is.  Why on earth would you want to change a spoken message into a.... spoken message??? Which 9 out of 10 times is wrong as well!! How do I turn this 'feature' off and prevent the home devices from trying to analyse spoken broadcast messages??

lo and behold: It is working again.

Confirmed! It is working for us too. Color me surprised 😮

Yes, Mine is working too. I can't say "good job" exactly, because it wasn't. But I'm glad it's been sorted out for now

Not working here yet 🙁

did you update manually something?

No update, it just started working today for me.

Turns out it’s working here too!

I didn't have to do anything at all, it just started working as of today. Yesterday it definitely didn't. I'm in Western Europe btw. Maybe location dependent.

I'm in the Western US and mine started working now too!

working now. thanks

it would have been great to read some real feedback about the why and how.

thanks

As long as it stays fixed, who cares 😄

YES!! Google should have announced it's FIXED and working now... But hey, that would be admitting guilt, and no company wants to do that...

Hello. What went wrong with the broadcast feature? I've used broadcast for several years and it used to be a great way to communicate messages within the house but not any more. Some broadcasts don't send at all. Some send only to one random speaker when they should send to all devices in the house. Some send to all devices but not simultaneously, so there is an incoherent, cacophonous echo effect. Sometimes google decides to 'translate' my voice message into the assistant voice - usually incorrectly. Why has the broadcast feature stopped working when it used to be fine?

Several threads but no solutions - 'our team is aware of an issue affecting some users and is currently investigating it' is not a fix.

Whhhhyyyyy are the voice broadcast features are translating through the devices in digital format and not our own voices. @@Google, please change it back. We hate this new update. It’s annoying and it’s a huge 30 seconds or more delay. The thing also doesn’t relate back to everything I said. Please bring our own voices back it’s not fun at all

This had been going on for months now and during that period it had works for about two weeks. So i'm not impressed yet and not convinced that this has been fixed... not until i get a response that it truly is. @Muddi

Hey Jun_KOBAYASHI,

Thanks for sharing the information. Sorry to hear that you haven't gotten an update about the issue. I understand this issue of broadcasting has been ongoing for quite some time, and I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused so far. At the moment, our team is still looking into this issue, and I have no additional updates to share right now. I’ll continue checking in with the team, and I'll update the main thread as soon as I can.

Cheers,

Muddi

How come???

The issue has been resolved and you don't have ANY feedback???

Was this resolved BY MAGIC?

Something was DONE to introduce this issue... and something was done to FIX IT!

And you don't have ANY feedback on ANYTHING??

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the  late response here. I'm happy to hear that some of you are able to hear your own voice when broadcasting. We've shared this information with our team, but do not have any updates to share right now.

I'll duplicate this thread to a similar trending issue. You’ll receive all updates on this issue on the main thread and we recommend updating and checking this thread when needed. Please note that once moved, this original thread will be locked.

Cheers,

Muddi

Really? So someone fixed the issue at Google but has not notified anyone? There are no updates?? Very strange.

Here is an update from the entire Google User Community.
Start sendng out update notifications with what you are updating and the changes that will take place. Twice this year Google made changes that drastically afffected its users and it took an excessive length of time to fix.

They will not update anything, and will not inform us of anything... That's how it works (unfortunately)

I have suggested this to many customer supports (as a soft dev I'm used to write well documented LOGS about changes and fix). But "big" companies don't like to admit anything (so they won't expose themselves to class action lawsuits)

Great to hear @Muddi . Is there a Post mortem about this? Please let us know what happened and how is guaranteed it will not happen again.

As of two days ago we are able to hear our voices again.

(this is not Android specific, but I had to select something thanks to the "great" user interface of this "forum")

Something's seriously wrong with Google Nest speakers. They used to send our voice messages around the house - simple, personal, and effective.. and it constitutes approximately 80% of our use for the things (19% being setting cooking timers), but lately, this functionality has been falling apart, and it's really starting become a problem.

They've started using Google's default text-to-speech voice to relay our words, stripping away the personal touch. It's hard to tell who's saying what when it's all the same voice. Worse still, Google's speech-to-text isn't always on point. Sometimes, it's a real puzzle figuring out what the message was supposed to be. The inconsistency is driving me up the wall.

I'm genuinely baffled as to why Google would implement this change. Voice-to-text-to-speech processing is a CPU-intensive task, making this decision economically and logically perplexing. We bought these speakers for their original functionality, which was simple, personal, and effective.

What is more maddening is the lack of an option to disable this feature. We're forced into a game of broken telephone, where messages are often lost in translation. This is not the user-friendly experience we signed up for, nor is it the one we deserve.

The absence of a clear rationale, coupled with the lack of a workaround, has left me frustrated. This downgrade is not just a step back, it's a leap in the wrong direction. I'm searching for a way to switch off this impersonal translation mode and return to the straightforward voice messages.

If you've found such a solution, do share. Because, in all honesty, I can't stress enough how this new setup is a horrible HORRIBLE downgrade...

@hvanmegen

Curious. Ours broadcasts our own voice messages.

However, if I try to broadcast any of the messages listed under "Broadcast a preset message" in the help topic below, Google Assistant seems to broadcast its own message in its own voice, with music. For example, I tried "Hey Google, broadcast it's time for bed". What Google Assistant did was to broadcast "It's time to get some shuteye" in a Google Assistant voice, along with graphics and a little music on the Nest Hub.
