Spoken broadcast message changed to spoken message??

realjax
Community Member

So when I broadcast a  spoken message to other devices in the house, the nest devices start to analyse the message and then change it to a spoken message using the google voice.  I know this sounds absurd and that is exactly what it is.  Why on earth would you want to change a spoken message into a.... spoken message??? Which 9 out of 10 times is wrong as well!! How do I turn this 'feature' off and prevent the home devices from trying to analyse spoken broadcast messages??

Hey everyone,

Great news! I'm thrilled to inform you that the broadcasting issue has been resolved. If you're still experiencing any problems, a quick reboot of your device could help. But, if the issue persists, do let us know by updating this thread.

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes! This is the most retarded downgrade you guys did to the broadcast. So the dumb change could help Google spy more on people.?

I thought it was just me and my system. I had reset all my Google homes and started making changes with my WiFi, the whole time it was a bad update. Wow.

It's been a week since it was stated the team was looking into this issue we need an update do wait it out or find another product elsewhere we need some communication here.

Google (and most companies) have the BAD habit of ghosting the customers when they make uncomfortable decisions...

Is it so hard to admit that this change / downgrade is a CONSCIENT DECISION?

If it's NOT, why not say so???

BTW... How does VOICE BROADCAST works (or worked!)?? Is the VOICE DATA sent to GOOGLE SERVERS? I can almost believe it is (given that the user must consent the Voice Recordings Google Account -> activity controls -> web and app activity -> include audio recordings)

If the above is true, then this could be a Google decision to avoid traffic to and from the Google Home servers... and if that's the case, then you just should INFORM all the clients of THIS CHANGE!

Having the same issue

The whole house is kitted out with Google home tech primarily so we can broadcast around the house to communicate. All Google home devices now take ages to respond, often do not hear you and deliver random messages in the assistant voice, nothing like what was actually spoken. Absolutely useless.

Needs a fix A.S.A.P.

Worse yet, the volume control doesn't affect the Google Assistant voice.  So turning up the volume of a speaker (which I do when waking my teens up in the morning) doesn't help.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out, and I appreciate  for helping here. I've duplicated this thread for a similar trending issue. Our team is aware of an issue affecting some users and is currently investigating it. I do recommend following the main thread for more updates about the issue.

Cheers,

Muddi

Muddi, where is the link of your duplicate thread?

Muddi, this change is affected all users! Also, you did not respond to any question here. Why this change happened? Are the team working on it really?

At least please provide with a link to your duplicate thread.

Thank you

I'd love to follow the main thread, per your suggestion. Where is it? And while I'm at it, why does Google insist I add unneeded verbage to this message before sending?

Where is "the main" thread??

Can we please get a link to this main thread. This is very annoying as my daughter has been ill and normally would broadcast if she needs us and the delay and incorrect messages have caused delays in us getting to her

@Agent-616

Your posts have been merged into the main thread.  Scroll upwards in this thread, and you'll see over 180 replies; some of those have been merged here from other threads.

@MplsCustomer,  your reply to @Agent-616 doesn't work.  When I "scroll upwards" in this thread, I do not see over 180 replies.  I do not see the merged messages.

@emisk

That's strange. I guess I don't know how Google Nest manages these merged threads.

When I scroll up to the top from your reply to the "Re: Google Nest broadcast no longer uses my voice" thread, I find that I am in the "Spoken broadcast message changed to spoken message??" thread (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Spoken-broadcast-message-changed-to-spo...) shown in the screen shot below., with 192 replies. That is the thread in which I am posting this reply:

That's right.  We are discussing this topic in two unmerged threads within Speakers and Displays. I'm still confused.

So. I changed to Amazon Alexa and there is all working fine.

I will sell all my Google Devices. Bad that Google goes this way, but maybe Google had enough Money and the existing Users didnt care anymore.

No answer here and no Info about the Main Thread. How long does it take to get back to an working Version and why did Google Change this?

We need a admin to address this and give us some info. Just saying it's being looked into isn't really providing us with any info @Admins

Another huge Google adopter and fan, considering an alternative. This is something we use 20 times a day. Without knowing who is sending, and with the delay, this is useless.

Wondering if Google cares?

This happened to us, too.  And it’s a serious problem in our home, because we were broadcasting with our OWN voices in multiple languages.  Now we don’t have the option to do that.  It’s exceedingly frustrating.  How very culturally insensitive and discrimnatory, too!  Google should be embarrassed and ashamed of this forced change that no one agreed to.  Google Assistant tries to translate my words into English, and of course what comes out is pure nonsense.  Becauss some of the languages we speak are emerging in mastery, in the past we could broadcast our OWN voices in multiple languages to help in language development and acquisition.   I absolutely loathe this change, and it’s enough to make me switch companies and devices completely.  The broadcast function using MY VOICE was over half the reason I selected Google to begin with.  It’s simply infuriating.  Be willing to fix it, or run the risk of losing customers and gaining a reputation that Google is culturally insensitive!

Same thing is happening here. Please allow spoken broadcasts to play as they were recorded,  and not changed to the Google Assistant’s voice. We use this feature multiple times per day. The delay between broadcasting now and when the GA pushes out the message is intolerable. Thank you for looking into this.

@Muddi

its been a while, what is status?

We need a working broadcasts, the text recognition takes too long is not accurate and feels annoyingly impersonal.

Beauty.  Nice to see Google's hard at work on this 🙄. This issue has been irritating our family for a few weeks now I'm kinda pissed that there's no fix yet.  Or any info from Google at all.

Same issue here. Very frustrating.

Just now I tried two different times to broadcast and the stupid thing can't get it right transcribing my broadcast.  Cuts off words or completely butchers the intended phrase.

I'm done

@Muddi please provide a status update on this. Also what is the link to the merged thread? When I invested thousands of dollars into this Google ecosystem I thought years later things would work so seamless together. Instead it's become a bastardized fragmented disaster. It's really a shame what could have been.

Thanks hopefully the 200 replies will get Google actually fix something that was never broken to begin with. Instead of adding new features, they are removing or breaking original ones that we paid for when we bought the devices

Any fix Muddi?  This is making my 10 speakers and displays useless....

Gogleisevil

The major use of these devices that we have is the old broadcast function. Now it's useless. Google, you either fix it, or refund our money for the devices that we purchased!!!

marcolopes

This problem (or conscient change!!!) together with the RANDOM POPPING noise when streaming music on the NEST devices, ruined the whole ecosystem...

BTW, anyone here is having the Popping NOISE on the nestshttps://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Strange-popping-sound-in-my-nest-mini/t...

For the love of all that is good in this world, roll back this change!!! It is horrible!!! It gets things wrong 90% of the time. It gets things wrong 100% of the time for my child that has speech issues. We also broadcast in 3 different languages, this absolutely does not work anymore. Give people the option to turn it on or off at minimum! If not, I’ll have to seriously ponder replacing our 7 devices for the competition’s.

Same problem here too.   “Dad, the Google is not working again” is a common theme in my home.  Great job marketing to the next generation Google!

Unfortunately, by using Google's products, we have all contributed to a technocratic, dystopian nightmare for the next generation. This decision, made with zero transparency and presumably to further an agenda not in the interests of the end user, is just a small taste of what is to come for our children. A brave new world indeed.

I am PISSED. This WAS one of the best feature that the home offered and the reason I bought more for my home. Being able to talk to my kids through them was one of our MOST LOVED features. Now, you've blown it with whatever assistant voice we have linked up to us. This is ridiculous. And I see I'm not the only one upset here. Additionally, the assistant doesn't understand some of the nuances in language as a whole, nor am I able to make goofy sounds and send them back and forth. The assistant doesn't understand "bleep bloop" and says something asinine. I went through countless threads to get this to revert back and you TOOK the voice option away. WHY? FOR WHAT? I am so beyond pissed off about this. You know how you fix it? You revert the friggin' coding to what it was. HOW HARD CAN THAT BE?! YOU SHOULD HAVE IT BACKED UP SOMEWHERE.

Can we PLEASE get an update and SOON?
