Time Zone incorrect on Nest Hub

SRK86
Community Member

I have 2 Best Hub Max devices that are both showing the wrong time zone. We live in Queensland, Australia in the AEST time zone, but are very close to the New South Wales border which is an hour ahead on AEDT.

I have tried updating time settings for the device but the only option is Time Format, not time zone.

I have checked that my address for the home is correct, and it is set to my address in Queensland.

Please help as it is not very useful to have a device on the wrong time!

Hi guys,

I had the same issue. Here is how I solved it:

The context: I moved to another country which was in a -1 hr.

When setting up my Nest Hub in the new country (Germany) I just created a new home, but didn't remove the old home - I just figured I'll leave it be in the app -> this resulted in the Nest Hub keeping my old time displayed (even though for the new home I entered the new address).

Solution:

- removed my current address of the home (the new one)

- removed the device from the OLD home list

- re-added my new address for my new home

And now I have the correct time (time-zone) on my Nest Hub

Hi Mike_in_Ottawa,

Thanks for letting us know about this. It looks like there are settings from your old router that affected the time. Glad to know that it's already working good. Please keep on monitoring it and let us know if you notice any changes.

For the meantime, I'll consider this post as complete and will lock the thread in 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread if you need assistance with your Google Nest speakers.

Princess,

I really wouldn't consider this issue closed.  Do you know of a way to fix Google's time-zone database or at least which team would be responsible for it?  I live on the edge of two time-zones and my Google Nest Hub Max is showing the incorrect time-zone.  The Nest Hub Max is working just fine, but the time is in EST vs. CST as it should be for my address.  All homes in my county should be on the same time-zone and that should be easy for Google to derive.  Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

@Princesss

I suggest Google Nest should only consider this post as complete when it does the following:

A) Provides an easy way for customers to get Google's database corrected when its database contains the wrong time zone for an address.  (Currently, there is no way for customers to do that, and in none of the posts in this forum has Google corrected its database.)

B) Provides a way for customers to manually update their time zone in cases where they live on the edge of a time zone or cannot get Google to correct its database.

Hi there

This behaviour has only started in the past week or so. Our Google Nest Hub displays the weather conditions adjacent to the time display. Each morning in the past few days it displays a double hyphen, in other words, is not displaying. If  I turn the power off and then back on for a minute or two, after rebooting it displays. Also if it’s not displaying and I open my Google Home app on my iPhone and tap Kitchen Display it immediately displays on the Hub. It’s remains displaying till the next morning and then it doesn’t. I’ve also checked to see if I can update the firmware on the Hub manually but can’t see it anywhere in any settings.
Any help appreciated.

@Conmore

This is an admittted defect introduced--apparently--by the latest firmware version.  Google Nest says they're trying to fix it, but as of today it is still not fixed.  See this thread:

Hi everyone,

Thanks @jd_2022 for bringing this up. If you're experiencing the same thing as what OP posted, you can try to connect your Google Nest Hub on a different network and compare if you're still getting the same results. However, if weather data keeps on disappearing every morning, you can refer to the steps on this thread.

@MplsCustomer, thanks for your feedback.

Best,

Princess

What am I missing?  The original post in this thread is about "Time Zone incorrect on Nest Hub".  I'm not sure how the thread on weather data disappearing got intermixed here. I'm not sure what happened, but my original post was deleted somehow...

Hi jd_2022,

Sorry for the confusion. Since you have confirmed that this is not related to the weather thread, let's go ahead and create a new thread since this was a different discussion. From there, we can start some steps and so other user's who are also experiencing the same thing can join the discussion.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply. It certainly explains why this behaviour has started. I’m not going to do a hard reset because it seems it’s the latest firmware update that’s caused the issue. So I guess we have to wait for a fix.
Cheers

Do not close this thread. This issue is not fixable - I have tried everything with no luck. This is a bug on Google's end that needs fixing

Hi niceguy6422,

Thanks for responding. I'd like to check if you have tried the steps posted above. Lastly, you can also perform a complete reset to see if this will fix this issue.

Keep us posted.

Well, I tried everything suggested here and nothing worked.  Then one day I noticed that the time was now displayed correctly.  No idea why.  Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Hi niceguy6422,

Happy to hear that your issue is now resolved. It is possible that an update fixed it. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Cheers,

Muddi

@Muddi

Why would you lock this thread as resolved?  @niceguy6422  is reporting HIS issue is resolved, but the MAIN issue affecting several other people on this thread, including the original poster, is NOT resolved.

People keep reporting that Google Nest's DATABASE has incorrect time zone assignments for some addresses. That has nothing to do with the customers' devices, and no one from Google Nest is even acknowledging the problem, much less agreeing to correct the ERRORS in Google's own address/time zone database.

This issue should NOT be locked.  Google Nest should provide a way to correct these ERRORS in Google's own address/time zone database.

Same issue. I did a reboot. Set up in same house. Now showing Eastern Time rather than Pacific time. Our only home is in California which is Pacific time.

System firmware version: 9.20221010.3.176
Cast firmware: 1.67.330920
Language: en-US
MAC address: 00:00:00:00:00:00
IP address: 192.168.1.134

I actually needed to "move" !!!
I changed my address within Google Home to be another city nearby.

I had to change all of my routines based on location, explicitely giving my REAL address.   I also had to create pseudo routines to override simple commands ("Hey Google, what is the time in xxxx", ... What is the weather in xxx")

"GOOGLE!  WHAT A PAIN!!!!!!"

@Princesss I have followi @coszam´s steps. 1/ removed the device from the actual home, 2/ changed the address to a totally different country, 3/ added the device back (date correctly set to the location´s time), 4/ removed decide once more, 5/ set current home to address in Queretaro, 6/ returned device to home in Mexico (same incorrect address)

Here is the information you requested:
* Devices affected: Chromecast with Google TV, Google LG Smart Clock, Hisense Google TV, and all other Google Assitant-enabled devices in the home.
*City/Country: Queretaro, Mexico
* Cast firmware:1.61.329909, 1.55.3.0.3, and others
* Delay hours: +1 hor (shown as DST, but there´s no DST in this and most Mexico anymore)

The solution seems simple. Why didn't I think of it? I need to move to another country.

Please remove this as the recommended answer.

If the Google database controlling the time zone for your address is incorrect, then no matter what the end user does, it cannot be fixed without Google fixing the back end.

Tried this and it did not work for me.

I HAVE THE SOLUTION EVERYONE!!!

IF YOU LIVE IN MEXICO CITY, YOUR ASSISTANTS WILL DISPLAY THE TIME AN HOUR AHEAD OF THE TIME ZONE IN MEXICO. **THE SOLUTION IS JUST TO SIMPLY SET THE HOME LOCATION OF YOUR DEVICE TO BE: BELIZE CITY WICH FOR NOW HAS THE SAME TIME ZONE AS MEXICO CITY**

This is not a solution, it's a workaround. A couple of us already mentioned about setting your location to a timezones like Denver Colorado to allow for the correct clock.

I was trying to help, but whatever rug face.

didn't rly changed any home tho.. the location of my home in the app was set to i dunno where lmao.. the moment i changed it back, it replied twith the correct time! Thnq so much!😇

A simple fix would be to allow the user to set the time-zone for the device, rather than trying to control it from a central database that is incorrect.  It's not just the Google Nest Hub Max either, it is all Google devices as mentioned above by @SRK86.  This issue isn't isolated to my home, I would suspect that it is a common issue along all time-zones on the planet.  Sometimes it will be right and sometimes it will be wrong...  I fully expect that it is some database that needs to be updated for my address, but has anyone had success getting in touch with someone at Google to fix the issue?

Why can't Google Nest simply provide a way for customers to request corrections to errors in its central database when addresses are assigned to the wrong timezone?  If Google is going to assign addresses to timezones throughout the world rather than letting the customer select their timezone, then it's their responsibility to provide a mechanism for correcting errors. This one thread goes back over 5 months.

I am having the exact same issue, after switching ISPs and connecting to a new network/router. Scoured the community and tried EVERY single solution to no avail. Wondering whether a community specialist can assist. @Jake ?

To note, I turned on personal results, and the assistant recognizes my current location and time, but when i ask it what time it is, it gives me a time that is 2 hours behind!

I'm having the same problem. Nest hub off by 1 hour.  Tried everything.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MY hub is off by pm vs am, so I did all the things suggested,  and it says afternoon,  but my alarm keeps trying to go off...so that's fun.  I double checked everything,  updated everything, chose my time zone here, rebooted 2x,  etc etc etc.  Super weird, seems like a huge error,  maybe my unit is defective,  but it's probably user error.

Given the number of others experiencing the same issue I'd bet it's not user error but a problem on Google's end.

PJR1801

I'm having the same problem Apparently, it's not an isolated instance.

The timezone for my address is incorrect. It should be Australian Eastern Standard Time (EST) but it displays on my Google Nest as Australian Daylight Savings Time DST. This means all of our Nest and Chromecast times are incorrect which seriously limits their use.

It also makes the arrival time when using Google Honme/Maps incorrect.

I have also purchased Google security cameras, which means the times will be out on those with any recordings.

We live in Queensland (Australia) approximately 500 metres from the New South Wales border. NSW has DST, QLD does not, therefore we have a 1-hour difference.

Can someone please advise how to fix this issue?

Or better still, can I talk to someone from Google to fix it?

I have been on the Google Maps Help page and the problem may not be a Google Maps problem. If the problem is not with Maps, then where could it be?
Using Android Auto, when I navigate to my home even from a couple of suburbs away, my arrival time reflects NSW time.
The display on my Nest gives NSW time, however, when I ask Google the time it gives me QLD time.

Hi,

I am having the same issue as the original poster. Address in QLD but showing the time for NSW. The suburb is on the border so appears they have the wrong timezone allocated to the postcode.
