"Could not communicate with your [Google Max/Nest Mini]]

Cellist31

I own several Nest Minis and several Google Max devices. I just moved. Before my move, all my speakers functioned well. Since moving to a residence with a new Wi-Fi network, I have tested a Google Max and a Nest Mini. I've been unable to get them to connect to the new Wi-Fi network that is not under my control. The devices confirm via a brief sound that they can connect with my Android phone. However, after I pick a room and click "Next," I receive a pop-up message that says, "Cannot connect to your Next Mini" (when trying to connect the Mini) and "Cannot connect to your Google Max" (when trying to connect the Google Max).

I have tried the followings steps to no avail:

  1. Deleting all data from my Google Home app and reinstalling it.
  2. Rebooting my Android phone and speaker devices.
  3. Factory resetting my speaker devices.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey Cellist31,

Thanks for visiting the community.

My apologies for the late response. It's challenging when you're having issues setting up your Google Home Max and Nest Minis - let's get to the bottom of this. A few questions: what country are you located in? What color is the LED light on the back of the Home device? Are you using the Google Home mobile application from a supported iOS or Android device? Is the Google Home device within 15 - 20 ft of the setup device?

Please try these steps below:

  1. From mobile devices go to WiFi settings and look for a WiFi name that represents their Google Home device (ex. “GoogleHomeXXXX” or if you had previously set it up then it would be the name you had assigned to it, ie “Living Room”) and connect to it.
  2. If it successfully connects, then go back to the Google Home app and it will launch the user into the setup process for your device.
  3. If it's still the same - try using a different phone/tablet to set up.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers,

Muddi
