Audio not working when casting from Chrome to Chromecast

Hello,

Ever since the Chromecast firmware issue was fixed, whenever I cast from Chrome on my Macbook onto Chromecast 2nd gen the audio stops after about 30 seconds. The video is still playing but the audio just stops.

Any tips on troubleshooting this?

Thanks

Hi @Valeriedls,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing some inconveniences with the audio of your Chromecast (2nd gen). I'm happy to help.

Please provide the information requested below to determine the reason why you're experiencing this:

  • Is the TV connected to an external receiver, soundbar, or speakers?
  • Is the TV on mute?
  • Do you use an HDMI monitor?

In the meantime, you can follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Close all open browser tabs and restart the Chrome browser.
  2. Make sure the Chrome browser is up-to-date.
  3. Reboot the computer.
  4. Disable Allow all sites to initiate mirroring:
    • In the address bartype chrome://flags/.
    • Search for Allow all sites to initiate mirroring and set to Disable.

    • Click Save.

  5. (For MacOS 15 or later) Turn on Local Network:
    • On your Mac computer (MacOS15 or later), open System Settings.
    • Select Privacy & Security > Local Network. You’ll find Chrome in the list of apps.
    • Turn on Local Network for Chrome to allow access to your network. This will allow permissions for your device to discover Cast-enabled devices.

  6. Check if the issue is browser-specific:

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Anders
