I need to cast the screen (on my phone or my laptop) to a TV in a room that has no internet access. There is an internal WIFI network (SSID : Mynetwork) for all devices in the room. I was told that there was an option called " Guest Mode" for that purpose. But Google has dropped the support and is no longer available. Here is what I tried
1. I set up temporary internet access (SSID: Internet) in the room. I was using a long cable on the floor that I needed to remove afterward.
2. Connected Chromecast to HDMI Input of TV. The Welcome screen came up saying to use Google Home to continue the setup.
3. I have my phone connected to SSID:Internet and started Google Home to set up the Chromecast.
4. I set up Chromecast to connect to SSID:Mynetwork. I got the message saying "Chromecast9393 ' is connected to Mynetwork, but can't access the internet.
5. I switched my phone to connect to SSID:Mynetwork so that both my phone and Chromecast are on the same network.
6. Google Home continues to search for the Chromecast and says cannot connect, please retry. After retrying without success, it throws me back to the welcome screen.
7. I started Chrome browser on my laptop which is also connected to SSID:Mynetwork. I brought up the cast icon. I can see Chromecast9393 and I selected cast screen as the source. But nothing happened.
Can you tell me if I am doing everything right ? and how can I get this to work?

This will not work and there is no workaround I'm afraid. Chromecast requires Wi-Fi with an internet connection to function.

Thanks, but why did Google drop guest mode without providing any alternatives?

As another user, I can't answer that question. If you'd like, you can also send this feedback directly to Google.

Just so you know, Guest Mode also required an internet connection to work. The information you were told was wrong.
Your Guest did not have to be on your network to talk to the Chromecast device, but the Chromecast device needed a network with full internet access in order to show what it was told to show.
