Can’t set up remote

CVTP
Community Member

I just bought a Chromecast with Google TV and during the set up the first step, pairing the remote by pressing « home » and « <— » button doesn’t work. I tried everything: removing batteries, replacing batteries while pressing home button, reseting the chromecast, changing HDMI,… but nothing helps. The light on the remote stays white. Thanks for your help!

Are the batteries good? Have you tried resetting the remote?

Yes, the batteries are working (LED light is on). I tried also with other batteries and it was the same.

I tried the resetting, and still not working... the LED stays on and doesn't start pulsing.

Appreciate you confirming! In that case, I'd suggest contacting the Google Nest support team directly as the remote may be faulty.

  1. Go to Contact Us - Google Nest Help
  2. Select an appropriate product or category, type a brief description of the issue, then click Next.
  3. Click Other, then click Next step.
  4. In the Resources section, click Next step.
  5. Choose to get a phone call, call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your help here, @David_K.

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community, @CVTP. If the LED is not changing, chances are the remote could be grounded. Try this workaround and let me know how it goes:

  • Remove the batteries and give it a 2 to 3 minute rest.
  • While the batteries are out, press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to fully drain any static power left on the chipset/motherboard of the Chromecast Voice remote, then release the button.
  • Let the remote rest again for 2 to 3 minutes. Take this time to unplug the Chromecast device from power and give it a 1 minute rest before you plug it back in.
  • Proceed with the pairing process.
  • After releasing it from being grounded, you can then try to factory reset the remote one last time if it still won’t pair.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hey there,

I wanted to check and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best,
Alex
