Can I still stream from my phone with the new version of chromecast?

So I got the new version of Chromecast with the remote and Google tv. I only bought it because the salesman's assured me I could still cast my phone if I wanted to. I got it all set up, but it doesn't seem to want to cast from my phone like my old versions of chromecast. So can I still cast from my phone with the new version of chromecast?

Yes, you can do that.

Just like before, make sure you are on the same network, go into any cast-enabled app, tap on the cast icon, and pick the Chromecast with Google TV's name from the list.

I do that all the time because there are some apps that will not install on the Chromecast with Google TV yet (they need to be updated) and because I don't want to install EVERY app that I use on the Chromecast device.

What happens when you try and do that?

Thank you for your response. I can't get anything to happen! I'm going to wipe it clean start over from the beginning and see if there's something I missed. Thank you!

To add to @Byteguy's great advice, you might consider trying these steps:

  1. Make sure your Chromecast is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the Wi-Fi router if possible.
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your phone or tablet, if not already turned on.
  3. Turn off mobile/cellular data.
  4. Reboot your router. Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.
  5. Reboot Chromecast by removing the power cable, then reconnect it.
  6. Reboot your phone or tablet.
  7. Make sure you're using the latest version of the apps you want to cast from, by checking your app store for any updates.
  8. Restart those apps.
    • Android: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the app.
    • iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the app.
  9. Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone or tablet.
  10. Reopen the app(s) you want to cast from.
