Cast icon missing in YouTube on Android

Hi,

The cast icon on my son's Samsung phone keeps disappearing.

When opening the app, the icon is there for a second and then it disappears.

What I've tried so far:

Reset the phone

Updated the phone's software

Force stopped YouTube and cleared the cache

Updated YouTube

Uninstalled updates and updated again

YouTube is the only app with this issue

Any ideas what else we can try?

Hi @Jenna123,

Thanks for posting in this community! I completely understand what's happening with your son's Samsung phone where the cast option isn't appearing on YouTube, and thank you for taking the time you spent trying to solve this problem.

I would like to ask you some questions so I can provide you with some additional troubleshooting steps that might help.

  • Is the router within 15 to 20 feet (4 to 6 meters) of the streaming device?
  • What’s the make and model of the device used to cast?

Regarding the previous information, I'd like to share some additional troubleshooting steps that may help resolve this issue.

  • Disconnect the Wi-Fi router from the socket and leave it unplugged for 2 minutes.
  • Forget the Wi-Fi network on the Samsung phone.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Hi @EduardoN ,

Thank you for your reply.

We have a 1st gen and a 2nd gen Chromecast and the problem occurs with both.

Both are near the router, one more, one less, but not more than 6 m.

Disconnecting the router and forgetting the WiFi network did not work either 😞

Hi @Jenna123,

Thank you very much for providing me with this information about your Chromecast 1st and 2nd generations and the information about your Wi-Fi regarding this situation you are experiencing. I would like to ask you for a few more details.

  • Have you tried using another mobile device to cast to your Chromecasts?
  • Have you tried performing a factory reset on your Chromecasts?
  • Does your Chromecast have any solid white lights?

Keep me in the loop, and I can assist you with next steps.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Hi,

I have no problem casting from my phone.

My son has the issue only with YouTube, he can cast from other apps without a problem. So I'm guessing it's a YouTube issue.

The 1st gen Chromecast has been factory reset, the 2nd gen one only recently, when there was that global issue.

Solid white light on both.
