Casting from Macbook pro to Google TV Streamer

hello,

I recently purchased the new google TV streamer after using a google chromecast in the past.

I have set up the Google TV streamer to support YouTube, Stan, Netflix and other streaming services. what I can't do is cast content from my Macbook Pro (Sequoia 15.1.1) onto my TV using the Google TV Streamer. when I try to cast content my Macbook can't find the TV even though both are connected to the same wifi.

When I had chromecast I had no trouble casting content but when I changed address and wifi the chromecast stopped working even though I reset the device to factory settings. Its seems that as soon as you change a variable the chromecast just stops working.

I gave in after trying 2 hours to fix the problem and went and purchased Google's TV streamer. I managed to configure the new device but I can no longer cast content from my MacBook onto the TV. The firewall is inactive so it couldn't be that, I do have Bitdefender antivirus installed but  as I said the firewall seems to be inactive.

Is there something else I am missing??

Thank you

Jen Thomas

Hi jenmthomas,

Thanks for reaching out to our community,

I’m sorry to hear that you can't cast content from your MacBook Pro (Sequoia 15.1.1) onto your TV using the Google TV Streamer 4K. Thank you for providing important details, such as your computer can’t find the TV icon when you try to stream from your computer even though they are connected to the same WiFi network, and it is also important to know that you began to have this inconvenience with the previous Chromecast device you had when you changed address and WiFi network. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you casting from the updated version of the Google Chrome browser?
  • How far is your Google TV Streamer 4K from the router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • Is your MacBook Pro (Sequoia 15.1.1) connected to the same WiFi network as your Google TV Streamer 4K?
  • Are you able to cast from other devices to the Google TV Streamer 4K?
  • Are you getting any antivirus warning on your MacBook Pro (Sequoia 15.1.1) when you try to cast?
  • Is your router or wireless network using AP isolation mode (also known as "guest mode" or "client mode") or an authentication page (also known as a "captive portal")? (If you don’t have this information, you can consult your ISP (Internet service provider).
  • Is your router running DNS software?
  • Does your router have MAC address filtering enabled?

Besides the previous information, please check if the local network is allowed for Google Chrome. Here you have the instructions:

  1. On your MacBook Pro (Sequoia 15.1.1), open System Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & Security.
  3. Go to the Local Network. You’ll find Google Chrome in the list of apps.
  4. Turn on Local Network for Google Chrome to allow access to your network. This will allow permissions for your device to discover Cast-enabled devices.

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna
