I have a Chromecast Gen 3 (exactly the same happens with Gen 2 and both have the latest firmware) connected to a Samsung TV so that casting switches on the TV. This works when casting radio to the Chromecast (eg. BBC Sounds), but when I cast radio to a speaker group including the Chromecast then the Samsung TV is not switched on and I have to manually switch it on. I noticed that when I am only casting to the Chromecast then the BBC Sounds app fills the screen, but when casting to the speaker group then I get the ambient screen with BBC Sounds in the bottom left- hand corner. The other devices in the speaker group (Evo 150 and Wiim Pro) work fine. The issue occurs if I use my iPhone or my Android tablet.

Although it seems that posting on this forum is waste of time given the number of unanswered questions, I will just add that the same happens with Tidal and Global Player (UK Commercial Radio Stations).

Hi Cranbourne,
Thanks for reaching out and for the details you shared. Did it work before? If so, when did the issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

I have only just started using Speaker Groups so I cannot really say when the issue started. I don't want to reboot the router at the moment so I cannot try 2., but I have tried 1. and 3. without any change, and I have tried a second generation and a third generation Chromecast.

Hi there,
Understood. Try step two and let us know the result by updating this thread. Could you also provide the firmware version? You can also send us a short video clip showing the issue so we can get a better look at it.
I look forward to your response.

Juni

Hi,
I rebooted the Wifi router this morning and tried both of the Chromecast, both HDMI ports, and BBC Sounds and Global Player. The results are the same: if I cast just to the Chromecast then the TV switches on automatically (HDMI-CEC) but if I cast to a speaker group including the Chromecast then the TV does not switch on automatically. The Chromecast (2nd Gen) has firmware 1.56.275994 and the Chromecast (3rd Gen) has firmware 1.56.291998 so both have the latest firmware. It seems that there is a bug and that the Chromecasts are not sending the HDMI-CEC signal when part of a speaker group.
Thanks

Hello there,
Got it. Thanks for the additional details you shared. If possible, could you try plugging your Chromecast into another TV and let us know if you get the same result?
Keep me posted.
Best,
Juni

Hi,
I tried plugging a Chromecast into my Sony A80J TV (not something that I would usually do as it has Chromecast built in) and as a result I had to remove my CA Evo 150 amplifier from the Speaker Group as it is connected to the Sony TV. Casting to the Speaker Group automatically switches on my Sony TV when all the devices in the Speaker Group are Chromecasts (it still does not work with the Samsung TV), but when the Speaker Group includes a non-Google device (my Wiim Pro) in addition to two Chromecasts it does not automatically switch on the Sony TV (or the Samsung TV). This seems to be getting stranger and stranger.
