Channel 4 in the UK

I've always been able to cast the Channel 4 (UK) app to my living room TV.   Now it starts to cast and shows me the ads, but stops as soon as the ads finish.  It's obviously paired correctly and on the same wifi.  Help?

Hi LMWalmsley, did you ever get a solution to this? The Channel 4 app has been unable to cast for about a month now, with the same error as you. Same on my wife’s phone.

Great, thanks! I think the Chromecast is Firmware 26.7. I'm casting from a new Samsung A15. I use the channel 4 app, which I've uninstalled and reinstalled.  I think the problem started with the new phone.

  • Can you please confirm the model of Chromecast you're using (Chromecast with Google TV, Chromecast Ultra, etc.)?
  • You said that you uninstalled and then reinstalled the app. Did you do this on your phone or on your Chromecast? (The question is only applicable if you have a Chromecast with Google TV).
  • Can you still cast to the Chromecast with your old phone or a different device?
  • Do you get any error message when casting?

Hi

I have a Chromecast with Google TV

On my mobile phone I uninstalled and reinstalled the channel 4 app.

I can't cast from my old phone either.  I get the same error message for both phones.  Both phones cast the ads only, then I get the error message.

Error message: A playback error occurred, re-cast to try again.

Just to get started, I have a question for you: when you see the content on both phones, are you able to see the content without errors? Did the video buffer or pixelate before it stopped casting? In the meantime, let's try some steps together! 

 

  • Reboot your Chromecast, router, and the device you're casting from.
  • Test casting with a different app to isolate the situation.
  • Disable mobile data or the Smart Network Switch on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

I have done all of the steps recommended below.  Everything casts except the channel 4 app.  Now what?

I'm so sorry to hear that the steps didn't work. Let’s try these additional troubleshooting steps:

 

  • Turn off any power or battery-saving mode.
  • Turn off automatic date and time and automatic time zone, then re-enable them (go to settings and automatic time zone).
  • Check for system updates on the device.

 

As a last resort, we can try to perform a factory reset on the Chromecast device. Just note that when you perform this action, all the data will be erased from the device.
