Chrome cast not casting

Smd86
Community Member

I've had 3 chrome casts for a few years. Recently I have been unable to connect to any of them. I can do a factory reset and complete setup without an issue, but then when I go to cast something it cannot be found.

I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

Thanks

Same here. Had the same Chromecast for ages. All of a sudden tonight I cannot find it. Reset twice to no avail

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. A few questions: What Chromecast device are you using? Do you see the Ambient mode (screensaver) on your TV screen? When did it start? Is this only happening in one app or across all apps? Has there been any recent change to the network?

Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  • Reboot your Wi-Fi router.
  • Reboot your phone and Chromecast device.
  • Ensure that all apps are up-to-date.
  • Ensure that your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Turn off your cellular data.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi

I have factory rebooted all of them, all on different TVs. Setup is fine, can see it on when the input is selected, so it works, but none show up to cast too. No new router, and also have reset it.

Thanks.

Hi Smd86,

Thanks for the details. Try the following:

  • Forget all the networks on your phone.
  • Reconnect only to the same network as your Chromecast devices.
  • For iOS devices, ensure that the local network is enabled.
  • To isolate, cast using another phone.
  • Check out this link as an additional guide.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello Smd86,

Thank you for the information. The idea of testing with another phone is to isolate possible communication failures from the phone itself. If the problem persists with another phone, then it could be a communication failure within the network. We are talking about 3 Chromecast devices within the network, not 1 being found after successful setup. You can isolate it by using a mobile hotspot. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Smd86,

Thanks for the details. Something may have triggered on the network that prevented these devices from communicating. It would help if you could set it all up on a different Wi-Fi network or a mobile hotspot, in case you haven’t tried. Keep me posted.

Kimy
