Chromecast (2. Gen) now rejects Original language audio

Chromecast as of today won't let me (German, in Germany) stream videos from the YouTube mobile app with any other language track than the auto-translated German auto-dubbed version, if there is one. Specifically, I have found out, and tested this with several videos, that once I switch to "Show via Chromecast", the mobile app switches to the auto-translated version and stops showing the audio menu, where I usually can select the original language version. In my case "English (original)". Once I switch back to showing the video on my device, the menu option reappear. Why? Please turn it back ASAP.

Edit: I updated the Google Home App, took chromecast off power and started it back up and restated my phone. The problem persists as described. All other apps amd OS are updated to the most recent version.

Hi Germanthinker,

I understand that when you attempt to cast a video from the YouTube mobile app to your Chromecast (2nd Gen), the audio automatically switches to the auto-translated German version, and the menu to select the original English audio track disappears. I appreciate the troubleshooting efforts you have made to resolve this inconvenience. But don’t worry, help is here.

Before we begin troubleshooting, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What's the Chromecast firmware version? You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • Are you experiencing this issue only with the YouTube app or with other apps as well?
  • Are you using a premium YouTube account?
  • Is your Chromecast connected to the same WiFi network as your smartphone?
  • Have you tried casting YouTube videos with another smartphone to check if you have the same issue?

In the meantime, I recommend you try the following steps to resolve the inconvenience:

  • Change your Google account language:

  1. Go to this website: https://myaccount.google.com/language
  2. Set it to your preferred language.
  • Adjust Language Settings in the Google Home App:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the Devices tab, then tap your Chromecast
  3. Tap Settings at the top right.
  4. Tap Device information, then tap Language.
  5. Choose the preferred language

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna
