Chromecast Renamed and Remote Issues

JU77

We usually use our TV’s (Samsung) remote for our Chromecast. This has never been an issue. Today, out of the blue, it is no longer allowing us to do so. To make it even weirder, the Chromecast somehow renamed itself DirecTV when searching for it in the TV menu. We have the appropriate settings on (HDMI-CEC is on), have reset the Chromecast, rebooted internet, etc. Also…we do NOT even have DirecTV. We use Time Warner for internet and do not have cable. It has since allowed us to rename the Chromecast back to what it was, but still will not allow us to use our TV remote. There is nothing wrong with the remote. It works for everything else. Ideas!?

Hi JU77,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. I’m glad that your Chromecast is working now. Which Chromecast model do you own? For the remote concern you can try to disable and enable the HDMI CEC on your TV, then observe if it will make a difference.

Let me know how it goes.

Juni

Hello,
I've already enabled the HDMI CEC. That was the first thing I did. This was not an issue until the 18th when it suddenly changed its name and stopped working on our TV remote. I believe we have a second generation.

Hi there,

Thanks for the response. Did you try to toggle the HDMI CEC to Off then back to On again to refresh? Is your Samsung TV a smart TV? If so, were there any recent updates to it that you noticed? Resetting the TV might help too.

Keep me posted.

Juni

Hello,
Yes, I've done all of that. Our Samsung is a Smart TV,  but we prefer to use the Chromecast because it's more user friendly. I have not noticed any updates lately, but we have it set to auto update and there are currently no new updates available.

Hi JU77,

Thanks for the details you provided. You can try to plug in your Chromecast to another TV and observe if it will make a difference. You can also use your phone as a virtual remote. Check this link for more information.

Hi there. Well, it’s still not working, but I think it may be a Samsung issue. We at least have our Chromecast remote and will just use that. It was just nice to be able to just use one remote for everything.

Hi JU77,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I understand the convenience of using one device for everything. It could be a Samsung issue too. Have you had the chance to try it using another TV?

Hello,

It still doesn’t work on our TV remote, but I don’t think there is really anything that can be done at this point. I’m not sure if it’s a Samsung issue or Chromecast issue, or both. We will just continue to use the CC remote. Thanks for trying to help.
