Chromecast can't connect to wifi

Hey Google community!

I've been encountering some issues trying to connect my Chromecast to my WiFi, and I'm seeking assistance to get it sorted out. I've tried various solutions, but it seems nothing is doing the trick.

Problem Details:

  • My Chromecast was working fine before, but suddenly it stopped connecting to the WiFi.
  • Other devices in my home connect seamlessly to the same WiFi network, ruling out an issue with the network itself.
  • I've rebooted both my Chromecast and router, but it hasn't resolved the problem.
  • I've double-checked that the WiFi password is correct, so that doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem.

Additional Information:

Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it? I would appreciate any advice or solutions you can provide. Thanks in advance for your help!

Chromecast requires a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection to stream content. There are a few things you can try to fix Chromecast connectivity issues. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and fix Chromecast not connecting to Wi-Fi:

1. **Restart your Chromecast and router/modem:** This is often the simplest and most effective fix for many connectivity issues. Unplug the Chromecast from the power outlet, wait for at least 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Also, restart your router and modem by unplugging them from the power outlet for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in.

2. **Check your Wi-Fi password:** Make sure you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password when setting up Chromecast. If you have recently changed your Wi-Fi password, you will need to update it on Chromecast as well.

3. **Move Chromecast closer to your router:** If Chromecast is too far away from your router, the signal may be weak and unable to connect reliably. Try moving Chromecast closer to your router to see if that improves the connection.

4. **Check for router firmware updates:** Sometimes, outdated router firmware can cause connectivity issues. Check your router manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates.

5. **Change Wi-Fi channel:** If your router is using a crowded Wi-Fi channel, it can interfere with Chromecast's connection. Try switching to a different Wi-Fi channel on your router.

6. **Use a Wi-Fi extender:** If you have a large house or thick walls, a Wi-Fi extender can help boost the signal to Chromecast.

7. **Reset your Chromecast:** If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your Chromecast to factory defaults. This will erase all of your settings, so be sure to back up your data before proceeding.

8. **Contact Google support:** If you have tried all of the above steps and you are still having trouble connecting Chromecast to Wi-Fi, you can contact Google support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

We appreciate all your help, @armandofloripa.

@pablolari, thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. I suggest you do a full clean-up by performing a factory reset manually. Then, if it still won’t connect to the same network, try it on another network. You can use another phone's mobile hotspot.

Let us know if you still have other concerns.

Thanks,

Kimy
