Hello 🙂
I'm currently using a Chromecast 4th Gen.
It was working fine with a certain streaming app until 2–3 weeks ago, but now It suddenly stopped working — when I tap the cast icon, a loading screen appears for a second, then the screen goes black with a large blue cast icon in the center, and nothing else happens.
(The video doesn’t play on my phone either.)
I’ve already reset the Chromecast, reinstalled the Google Home app, and even reset my router.
YouTube casting, screen mirroring, and other streaming apps still work fine.
What else can I do to fix this?
(The streaming app is for my daughter, and she’s driving me crazy —
“Mom! Why can’t you put it on the big screen? You did it before!” 😫)

Unfortunately, that sounds like something the maker of that app has to address. I would suggest you reach out to their Support.
Everything else you did proves that the Chromecast device is working correctly and the fact that other apps work points to problems with just that particular app and how they are sourcing the video.

But some casting doesn’t work either—like video streaming in Chrome. 🤔
Recently, when I try to mirror my Android phone, it asks whether I want to share one app or the entire screen. It used to start mirroring right away before.
Maybe the problem—the black screen with the big blue Cast icon—started around that time.

That Android mirroring change is new and working as expected. They added that so you could limit sharing to just ONE app and not accidentally share something private from another app.
Video streaming in Chrome depends on how you are streaming. If you are mirroring, yes, that has always been a problem. Some display codecs block mirroring (copy protection).
