Chromecast mirroring timeout

When mirroring my screen on Chromecast it now seems to timeout and go to the ambient screen after ~ 10 seconds of inactivity. This has only started happening in the last day or so. Anyone know why this might be happening or a fix?

Update: this seems to be related to the most recent Chrome update, and isn't just inactivity, but the timeout happens when not actively streaming video. I was scrolling on the screen I was streaming, looking for a new video and the casting deactivated.

Hi crouthammer,

Thanks for posting. I understand that your Chromecast device is going to the ambient screen after 10 seconds of inactivity. I'll be more than happy to help. I just need to ask for some information to provide the best assistance.

  • What is the Chromecast device that you have? You can check the "Chromecast and Google TV Streamer Specifications" article to find out.

  • What specific device and operating system version are you casting from?

  • Have you tried restarting the device you are casting from?

  • Have you tried clearing the cache and cookies in your Chrome browser or app and then attempting to mirror again?

  • Does this issue occur when mirroring any tab or screen, or is it specific to certain websites or apps?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny
