Chromecast not available

So my Chromecast gen1 which has been working perfectly with no issues for years, is suddenly now "not available" on my Google Home on multiple devices. I have tried rebooting the Chromecast, Google Home, my devices, the WIFI, I've also factory reset the chromecast multiple times. I've uninstalled updates on Chrome. I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any more ideas?

Thanks for posting — let’s see what’s going on. A few questions: after the factory reset, were you able to successfully setup your Chromecast? Did you make any changes to your Wi-Fi network? Also, what phone are you using (Android or iOS)? Try these steps and observe if they make a difference.

 

  1. If your Chromecast device is plugged into a USB port, connect it directly to the power outlet so that it receives enough power and can be discovered by the Google Home app.
  2. Make sure location service is on.
  3. Check if the Chromecast device is within 15 to 20 feet of the setup device and the Wi-Fi router.
  4. From the setup device, turn Wi-Fi off then on.

Thanks for getting back to me. In answer to your questions, yes I managed to setup Chromecast after factory reset, no I haven't made any changes to wifi, and I'm using an android with the latest update.

I've followed all 4 steps already and no luck. I've also gone out and purchased a new Chromecast with google tv, which I setup using my phone, but it is also unavailable to cast to. At least now I can stream my favourite shows.

Hey tashiipopple,

 

Chiming in, have you tried casting using a different phone/tablet? Please make sure that your phone is connected to the same network where your Chromecast with Google TV is connected, and you have to be within 15-20 feet. away from the device to cast. Also, make sure that the mobile data on your phone/tablet is disable.
