Chromecast randomly disconnecting from the internet after the latest software update

My Chromecast used to be working perfectly, but recently it had a software update, and now you've ruined it. After the update it's now constantly randomly disconnecting from the internet halfway through watching anything. Then we have to reconnect it to the WiFi, and a few minutes later it just randomly disconnects again.

Why do you people insist on releasing software updates that break things that were working perfectly fine? Why does every single tech company constantly do this to their products? It was working perfectly fine and you went and broke it for no reason!

It seems that the disconnections happens because my WiFi uses 160MHz wide channels. It doesn't seem to disconnect if I use 80MHz.

So for now this seems to be a "fix", but it's definitely a new problem as it used to be okay before.

I'm having the same issue. Nothing changed on my WiFi, but now Chromecast just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

Also tried that.  Even used My Phone as AP, to make sure it was not related to moy router/provider.  Same result, discon after 10 to 20 min. sometime fast enough not to long so stream have time to restart, but sometimes, netflix just says no network and after a while have to reboot the CC.   ALL was fine untill update!!

Hi there,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with your Chromecast. I understand that after a recent software update, your device is now constantly and randomly disconnecting from the internet, which is certainly a frustrating experience. Please know that I am here to help you get this resolved.

To help me understand the issue better, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What is the specific model of your Chromecast? (If you are not sure, please visit our Help Center to know more about Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications.)
  • Have you already tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • What kind of Wi-Fi network are you using (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz), and are there many other devices connected to it?
  • Is your Chromecast plugged directly into a wall outlet with its power adapter, or is it using a USB port on your TV for power?

In the meantime, here are a couple of basic troubleshooting steps that often help with connectivity issues that occur after a software update:

  • Reboot your Chromecast: Unplug your Chromecast from its power source for about a minute, and then plug it back in.
  • Reboot your router: Unplug your Wi-Fi router for about a minute, and then plug it back in.

Please let me know if these steps help or if you have any other questions. We'll work together to find a solution.

Regards,

Kevin

I'm my case:

  • Chromecast with Google TV (4K)
  • Tried the usual steps, Chromecast kept disconnecting. Only Chromecast disconnects, not the other devices.
  • 5 GHz WiFi, 160MHz. 4 to 10 devices connected. Ubiquity Unifi U6 Pro. No config change or updates recently.
  • Plugged to the wall. Tested with different cables and chargers.
  • Rebooting the chromecast/router/access point didn't fix the problem.
  • Running Android 14, the latest available update.

What did help:

  • Switching Wi-Fi from 160 MHz to 80 MHz.

This change reduces capacity for all devices though, which is a problem in my case. Also note that Chromecast didn't disconnect with 160 MHz before.

thanks for reaching back.

I have a chromecast with voice remote.

Wifi and NBN have been reset.
Chromecast has been restarted multiple times. It is plugged into the OEM USB power stack on a power protected power board.
Wifi is 2.4G which when connected measures as “Excellent” and has a very low ping.

The steps you have suggested help temporarily, but aren’t an ongoing solution. Is there one you can provide?
