Chromecast volume affected by other apps

Ross_N

I use a chromecast device to cast Hulu tv on my iPhone to a Samsung tv.  Generally, all fine.  Every now and then, though, and multiple times yesterday, I’ll open or do something with a totallyunrelated app (could be safari, or a game app, or weather….) and the chromecast volume goes down - sometimes to 5 or 10%, often to 0.  What’s going on and how can this be prevented?  I can always fix it in Google Home, but this is very frustrating.

Hello @Ross_N

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Community Forum. I understand that the volume on your Google Chromecast is being affected when you are casting content. While this doesn't happen all the time, the volume has been decreasing often recently. I understand how frustrating this situation must be for you. Don't worry. I'm here to help.

To gather further details and determine the optimal resolution, please answer the following questions:

I look forward to hearing back.

Best regards,

Daniel

Thanks Daniel,  I have four chromecast devices and the issue occurs for all of them.  I think they are all basic black chromecast devices.  I can’t yet get information on firmware - when I click and hold the device icon, I see a big volume circle (generally set at zero!) and no setting icon.  When the problem happens, I’m generally about 15 feet from the tv.  Not sure about up to date google home.  I’ve had it for a couple of years….??

Hi @Ross_N

Thanks for getting back to me and sharing the following information. To expedite the assistance, take a look at the next steps:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Check if you have a pending update on your mobile device.
  • Restart your Chromecast device. For instructions, please check out this help article: Reboot your Chromecast or Google TV streamer.
  • Try casting from a different mobile device and check if you experience the same issue.

Also, could you please share a picture of what you see in the Google Home app once you choose your device?

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Daniel

Thanks - the more I think about this the more I think the issue must be in the Google Hime app.  This happens with four different chromecast devices in four different tvs, in two separate locations and two separate WiFi routers.  They can’t all be having the same problem at the same time.  When this happens, the specific device that’s playing shows up on the Google Home app with a volume at 10% or 5% or 0%.  I reset it to 100% where it should be and the sound returns.
