Chromecast with Google TV: regression in backgroundDim behavior for activities

tomdedecker

Since updating our Chromecast with Google TV to the latest version (Security patch 1 January 2023), the backgroundDimEnabled property of Activities have stopped working as expected. The backgroundDimAmount is not properly respected, seemingly only supporting a value of either 0 (completely transparent / no dim) or 1 (black). We've tested this on two of these devices with a few different apps (including the LeanbackShowcase from the official samples: https://github.com/android/tv-samples, you can see this when opening the settings window) and in none of the cases did the dim amount behave as expected. This seems to be a relatively recent regression as we didn't have this problem before updating. Could you look into this issue? Our customers rely on this working properly so we'd like to have this resolved as soon as possible.

We've already taken up contact with customer service and they redirected us to post feedback via the Google Home app (which we did), but we'd like to have some kind of feedback channel to know if/when this could be fixed.

If there's any more info that I can provide to help fix this issue, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Tom

The latest update for the Chromecast with Google TV (April 2023 security update) seems to have fixed the issue. This ticket can therefore be closed.

Kind regards,

Hi Google,

We are also seeing this issue on our Chromecast with Google TV.
On other Android TV devices (also with Android 12) we're not seeing this issue.
Is this expected behavior?

Kind regards,
Roel
