Chromecast with Google TV. When I press the buttons on the remote, it won't turn on. It used to, but I suspect a buggy upgrade disabled it. I have to unplug power for a few seconds to reboot. It works fine after that, until tomorrow... then repeat. Two days in a row so far. Haven't used it for a few weeks prior to yesterday when I found the problem.
Anyone else with this issue? Is a fix in the works?

I have the exact same issue for over 2 months now. People think a Chromecast update caused it. I have factory reset the device and even returned it for a brand new one. Same thing.
Here are some Reddit threads where the topic is discussed:

And
And
https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/13a08z2/no_signal/
EDIT: one of the Reddit threads has a temporary workaround. You will have to change the on/off behaviour of the Chromecast remote to only turn on and off the Chromecast and not the tv. This means I will have to use two remotes. Im still testing it myself but so far so good. Waiting for a fix from Google.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the input, @UserName531.
@Phatdoggy, I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should. Let’s further look into it. A few questions: are other buttons on the remote working fine? Have you already tried to factory reset the Chromecast with Google TV device and its remote? How about trying to plug it in a different HDMI or TV?

Alex

Hello Alex,
Thanks for the help. Here are my answers. I did change hdmi ports on my Denon AVR and factory reset the Chromecast and the remote. It didnt help. I exchanged the Chromecast for a brand new one at my retailer, but the same problem returned.
If I go into the Google TV remote settings and tell it to only turn on/off the Chromecast everything works fine but I need 2 remotes. This precise setting in the remote settings makes the problem come and go.
My setup is: Sony X95H TV > Denon X4700H AVR > Chromecast

I did not do a factory reset. No other button would wake the Chromecast. Did some reason, it just started working as it should as of yesterday. I press the home or power button and it wakes the Chromecast and then turns the TV on via CEC.

Hi folks,
Thanks for your help here, @Alex_S.
@Phatdoggy, I’m glad that you’ve got this sorted out. Let us know if you still have questions.
@UserName531, thanks for the details. Based on your description, even a brand new one is still showing the same behavior. Chances are, it may not be the Chromecast devices. Try to bypass other connections and just set it up for the TV alone. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Kimy

Hello Kimy,
Good idea. I changed my setup yesterday and plugged it into my Sony tv using my tv speakers as audio. It looked fine yesterday, no issues. But this morning it refused to startup again. Unplugging the device and restarting it brought it back. I will try to completely disable CEC on the Chromecast to see if that solves it.

Hello Kimy,
I have used my Chromecast directly connected to my Sony X95H tv. It worked fine for a day but the same problem came back just now. I get a no signal and I cant get the Chromecast to turn on. There are no more devices I can remove from the chain here and I have tried several hdmi ports. This happened with CEC on since its really not workable to use 3 remotes (tv, receiver for volume and chromecast) just to watch tv. The Chromecast remote is configured to only turn on/off the Chromecast itself.
Some other things worth mentioning:
- it never happens when Im using the Chromecast. The issue only arises when the Chromecast is in standby mode and I want it to turn on.
- Even though the Chromecast does not respond to the remote and there is no signal, the Google Assistant button works fine. I can actually turn on my lights for example. So it seems something is still alive? This might help point in the right direction.
I hope this is enough troubleshooting. There is not much else to do. If you look at the reddit threads I posted this is also not a Sony TV issue. It happens with all kind of brands.
Please let me know how we continue from here.
