Chromecast won't cast from Chrome

hi there! 

looking for some advice as to where i'm going wrong here. 

Chromecast will not cast tab from chrome. It will cast spotify and youtube no problems or issues there but when selecting cast tab or screen it doesn't work. There are a few seconds of loading and then switches to dark screen with cast logo in the middle. 

Tried turning the Chromecast on and off. and tried reseting to factory

Tried resetting my apple laptop. 

This only started happening after updating Macbook to Big Sur Ver 11.7.10

Chrome is Version 137.0.7151.120 - I keep updating 

 

Any advice is appreciated!

I understand your Chromecast is working fine with Spotify and YouTube, but when you try to cast a tab or your screen from Chrome, it won't connect, only showing a dark screen with the cast logo. I appreciate you informing us that the issue began shortly after your MacBook was upgraded to Big Sur (11.7.10) and for the troubleshooting steps you've already attempted. Don’t worry, I’m here to help.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you using an Android or an iPhone to manage your Chromecast?
  • Is your mobile device operating system updated?
  • What is the model of your Chromecast? Here's a Google Help Center article that can help you identify your device: Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications.
  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, this Google Nest Help Center article provides helpful instructions: Update the Google Home app.
  • Is your Chromecast connected to the same WiFi network as your mobile device and your MacBook or computer?
  • Does Chrome on your MacBook have local network enabled so it can connect to your network?
  • Is there any installed antivirus, security, or firewall software on your laptop or computer that could be blocking the streaming tool? 
  • When you open the Google Chrome browser, can you see any alert symbol or message?
