Foxtel App on Google TV Streamer not working

anthk1973
Community Member

So purchased a GTV Streamer 4k to replace my apple TV - primarily as it advertised the foxtel App (which I use on my bedroom TV. It appears though that this is not supported on Android 14. I cannot understand how both Google and Foxtel can advertise their compatibility without it being functional. As I understand it there are the same issues with Binge and Kayo sports which are also popular in Australia.
Does anyone know of a way to obtain a GTVS4K build for Android 13?

Hi everyone- had an update from Foxtel yesterday. They confirmed what we all knew which is that the app isn’t compatible with android 14. They said that the technical group are actively working on a change but couldn’t give me a time as to when it could be resolved. Said it may be 1-2 months.

Come on Google, put some pressure on Foxtel to get their act together, they are undermining your product.   Google advertises "bring together everything you stream on one screen" . That is not true at the moment.

Absolutely! Google needs to act, and fast. I get my Foxtel Now through Telstra. Contacted them today. Got a case number. They have promised to put pressure on Foxtel. I imagine that there are many ex-Telstra TV customers who have been caught up in this.

I'm one of them.

Well done, need to keep pressure up

Not certain about getting any pressure or help from Telstra, they seem as weak and hapless as Foxtel. I also got a case number from Telstra regarding our problem with Foxtel. I chased it up several weeks later and they had no record of my case number. Foxtel and Telstra are no help or just do not care. Google could be a better way forward, as it is making them look as bad as the other two. Keep up the faith and we will get there eventually, I hope!

Couldn't agree more. Absolute disgrace by Foxtel and Google should be forcing the update..it can not be that hard!

I still don't see this as being Google's issue?  They simply make the device - it is solely the responsibility of the App developers whether they choose to release something that works on it.

Google still advertise "Everything that you stream, on one screen"  Also "Watch movies and shows from all your services"

Quite simply, it doesn't.

Yep, I'll give you that 😀

So I made a Live Chat complaint to Google.  The person was sympathetic but just advised that they are aware of a compatibility issue with the Foxtel App but that Foxtel are working on it - which we all know 6 months after device launch that they are not.  They are going to "pass on my frustration to senior product specialists".

I was then able to provide further feedback about the issue on another part of the Google Store more directly associated with the TV streamer.

Whether the above does any good or not......

Still not working. Suggest all affected customers email and lodge a request to upgrade their ancient software.

Foxtel still not working!!!

Foxtel have been claiming they have a beta app for a couple of years!!   They just don't seem to be getting it into the real world,  This was long before the issues with Android 14 though.

I went back to my older Google Chrome Cast with Google TV, Foxtel still works fine on that

HBO max comes out next year which will take a lot of shows off foxtel

Foxtel Live Chat should be renamed Foxtel Circular Chat as you just go round and round in circles and NEVER get a result. Really embarrassing for Foxtel, no wonder customers are leaving by the thousands. Avoid Foxtel at all costs.

Neither Foxtel, Telstra nor Google seemed interested in finding a resolution to the issue. I had cases with all three. Google said that it was a Foxtel issue, and I should speak to them. [ I said that they were guilty of letting Foxtel advertise compatibility with their streamer. They acknowledged that but had no plans to address it!] Telstra said that they were merely an associate of Foxtel, but promised to pressure Foxtel, yeah, right! Foxtel said straight out that they were aware of the problem but had no immediate plans to address it. [Foxtel first denied that they advertised compatibility but then said that they would see what they could do.]

I have now bought a new TV and resolved the problem. Our old TV was 10 years old and not quite so smart!

The Foxtel, Telstra & Google problem with the streaming service of Foxtel Now/Go in Australia is unbelievable. Foxtel & Telstra must take most of the blame, but they need assistance from the mega rich company google, surely, they must have the resources to resolve the problem quickly. Come on google, please help us here in the outback of Australia, please drag Australia into the 21st Century.

Not Google's problem.  They just make the device.  They're not in control of the App developers.  This is a purely Foxtel/Telstra issue.

DEV7310

Totally agree with you, Foxtel/Telstra get your act together and sort out the problem you have created!

I'm using my old smart tv with foxtel because the google tv streamer doesn't work. The quality is so **bleep** foxtel.. lift up your game your service is overpriced crap. You are litterly losing subscribers because you want fetch tv to be the only platform that supports foxtel because it's a monthly subscription.  Such a money hungy garbage company

Maybe, fingers crossed, Foxtel's new owner might invest a couple thousand dollars to yknow upgrade their app now...

That's very likely why it hasn't been fixed.  News Corp trying the spend as little as possible on Foxtel while the sale goes through.

Samk,

Check this out, same issue with the "New" google tv streamer, won't connect Foxtel log in. BUT my OLD google chrome cast 4k works on my  kogan Android "Perfectly" , So it seems we're stuck with this useless so called upgraded version, Will Office Works take it back for a Credit/ Refund ?

So I just got two Streamers and on 11/01/2025. There is still a problem. I have logged an issue with Foxtel.

I have been trying to work out what is wrong with Foxtel Go for weeks and I am disappointed to find out that there is no solution.
Foxtel Go worked fine on my old Telstra TV until it was killed by Telstra

the only thing you can do is open the foxtel go app, find the live channel or movie/show and cast it onto the chromecast.

I was doing that (and it works well enough) but I hated the app experience so I packed the Google TV Streamer up and have gone back to my Foxtel Now box.

The fact Foxtel continues to advertise the Go product is shameful.

yeah well basically I just use a foxtel IQ box now and when I stay somewhere I do what I've mentioned
