Galaxy TabS3 no longer chromecasts to TV

My old Galaxy TabS3 will no longer chromecast via a Generation 2 dongle to my TV. But my Galaxy S21 Ultra phone will. (As will my iPhone.)

This problem just cropped up about two weeks ago,

I've gone through all the suggested troubleshooting: factory resets of the dongle, deleting and re-installing the Google Home app, restarting devices, etc,

The fact that it works with my Galaxy phone and not my tablet indicates the tablet's at fault. I suspect it's because the tablet has an old operating system. It's Android 9, but the system was last updated in 2020, and when now trying to update the system, I get a "system is "up to date" message.

When I try to cast, I get the "circle screen". (See the attached screenshot.) It shows the circle at 100%, but it's for volume. It also says "casting ended". When I hit the cast button again, the same error occurs; it loops.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @rprescot1

Thanks for reaching out to the Community! I understand that you were having some inconveniences trying to cast from your Galaxy Tab S3. I understand it can be frustrating, but don't worry! Let me help you with that!

You mentioned that your tablet is probably on Android Version 9. It's important to have the best service by using the latest Android or iOS version to cast without any issues, as older versions can sometimes experience these types of problems.

However, one step you can take is to check if you have microphone permission enabled on your device. This is often necessary to cast any type of content.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or inquiries. I will be more than happy to assist you!

Best Regards,

Debora

Thanks, DeboraJ,

I won't be home until next week but I'll check out the microphone suggestion then and get back to you.

Best,

Richard
