Google Chromecast

Our Google Chromecast is set up with a router at home, we bought a second Google Chromecast for another router from another internet provider but we will sometimes be using a third one. Do we need to do a factory reset on one of them each time????

The problem is that where we live Internet speed is very low, so we have a routers from 2 different providers but sometimes these do not work either (or the download speed is too low to watch tv properly... 5Mbps or less) so we would have to use the hotspot on one of our phones.

If Chromecast is still connected to an existing Wi-Fi network, you can follow these steps to change the Wi-Fi network it is connected to.

If you don't update the Wi-Fi information before turning the Wi-Fi off/swapping Wi-Fi, you can try these steps to update the Wi-Fi info on Chromecast:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top left, tap Add + > Set up device > New device > set up new devices in your home.
  3. Follow the in-app steps.

If these steps above don’t solve the issue, you’ll need to factory reset your Chromecast, then set it up again using your new Wi-Fi network and password. If you're using Chromecast with Google TV, follow these setup steps instead.

If it's possible, instead of factory resetting your Chromecast, if you're comfortable changing your router settings, you could change your Wi-Fi network names and passwords in the all the router's settings to be the same. Only have 1 router on at a time, turning the others off when not in use and your Chromecast should then always connect to whichever router is turned on at the time.
