Google Streamer 4k - Screen Mirroring quality issues

Basti417

Hi everyone,

I bought the new TV Streamer 4k and realized that the quality of screen Mirroring is really bad.

I use a pixel 8 pro, our router is just 3-4meters away and has a very good performance (e.g. up 400mbit/s) and I even tried it with connecting the streamer via Ethernet. A friend of mine tried screen Mirroring as well with his Samsung s23 but no difference.

Compared to just linking my phone via HDMI, the quality of the screen Mirroring is just bad.

Does anyone have the same issue? Are there settings which can be optimized?

Thanks,

Basti

Hi Basti417,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing trouble using screen mirroring with your Google TV Streamer (4K) that shows a low video quality. I understand how frustrating this can be. Let's work together to find a solution.

For this concern, please do the following:

  • Please check if the Google TV Streamer (4K) is up-to-date. If not, try to reboot the device by unplugging it from its power source, waiting 1 to 2 minutes, then plugging it back in to attempt to receive the update.
  • Check if your Pixel 8 Pro is up-to-date on your phone's settings.
  • Check the proximity and minimize intervening obstructions (such as walls) to allow for the best connection possible. Ideally, they should be less than 15 to 20 feet apart from each other.
  • Try to clear the cache on your phone. Here are the steps:
  1. On the phone or tablet, go to Settings, then Device Apps, and then All.
  2. Scroll down and touch Google Play Movies.
  3. Tap Clear data, then tap OK.
  4. Tap Clear cache.

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Byron

Hi Byron,

Did all steps but no change 😞

But I realized that even streaming on the pixel tablet had bad quality. Checked wifi connection and used a different one. Still bad quality.

Is there a general problem regarding Chromecast quality? When I'm pairing my phone via HDMI cable to our tv, quality is good.

Best,

Hi Basti417,

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate the effort to troubleshoot the situation. Let's work together to find a solution.

Please try the following:

  • Please reboot the Google TV Streamer (4K) device, the casting device (Android or iOS), and the router device. Here are the steps:

Reboot the Streamer device:

  1. Remove the Google TV Streaming (4K) device from the power source.
  2. Leave the device unplugged for one minute, then plug it back in.

Reboot the casting device (Android or iOS):

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Wait several seconds.
  3. Turn it back on.

Reboot router:

  1. Disconnect the WiFi router from the socket and leave it unplugged for 2 minutes. Start a 2-minute timer to track the time.
  2. Check if the router's LED lights are off when the router is unplugged. Some routers have backup battery packs, so you need to disconnect the battery packs to ensure the router completely turns off.
  3. Once all router LED lights are back on and the network name shows on the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your phone, check if the Google TV Streaming (4K) device can connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Note: For dual-band routers, make sure you connect the Google TV Streamer (4K) device and phone to the same Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).

Keep me posted if you need more assistance.

Regards,

Byron

Hi Byron,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I already received a new streamer but the problem is still there (and at the pixel tablet as well).

To be sure, that our wifi isn't the problem, I used a hotspot with my phone and paired the streamer. Unfortunately with the same result.

Are the settings which could block the high quality stream?

Best,

Sebastian

Hi Basti417,

Thank you for your response and detailed information.

You can try to disconnect from the Google TV Streamer (4K) device and stop mirroring. Here are the steps:

  1. Make sure the mobile phone or tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast device.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap favorites or devices.
  4. Tap their device and then stop mirroring.

Also, please check if your phone's power-saving mode is turned on. Here are the steps:

  1. On Android devices: Check the device manufacturer’s support site for instructions.
  2. You may also do a quick search on Google on how to turn off the power-saving mode in your device.
  3. On iOS devices: Go to Settings, scroll down, and tap Battery Disable Power Mode.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Byron
