Google TV Chromecast no Ethernet on startup after recent update +- September 10, 2024

Since the last update, my Google TV Chromecast states there is no internet at startup. I use wired internet via an ethernet adapter with no problems thus far. I need ethernet because my Wi-Fi signal is too weak.

The ethernet adapter is connected to my network without any problem. The control-LED’s light up normally.
Workaround: Now I have to unplug the Chromecast (USB-C connector) from the adapter and reconnect it again. Then the Chromecast starts up and I have an ethernet connection as usual.

To me, this is a bug in the Chromecast software because it doesn’t recognize a ‘new’ connection after it started up. Until the recent update this worked fine.

Please update Google TV to check for the ethernet connection like it used to do.

Notes
• I was sent here from the Google TV help community, where I posted the same question earlier.
• I always turn off my TV and adapters when I’m not using them. Turning them on when needed.
• The “Ethernet” option is only visible when Chromecast detects the network at startup. Restarting the device from its menu does not solve the issue. Only dis- and reconnecting the USB-C connection from the device makes the wired connection visible and available.
• Hard and software: Chromecast HD, OS version Android TV 12, build STTE.240615.007 running in Dutch language.
• Ethernet via a third party hub because the original Google ethernet adapter is out of sale for at least a year now.

What I have done so far
I searched the community and checked the following post and pages with no solution:

PS. The connection only fails om system startup after the workaround everything works like its supposed to.

Hey Denninger,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I'm sorry to hear that your Google TV Chromecast is not connecting to your network as you expected, but don't worry. It's a pleasure to assist you.

I appreciate that you have taken action by reviewing the troubleshooting steps above. So let's explore more steps.

  • Restart your Chromecast. Unplug the power cable, wait three seconds, and then plug the power cable back in. To get further information, check out this article: Reboot your Chromecast device.
  • Restart your modem or router.
  • If after performing these troubleshooting steps the trouble persists, try to do a factory reset. For your reference, visit this article: How to factory reset your Chromecast.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hai Daniel,

Thanks for te suggestions, but like I stated in my original question I alleyways unplug my adapters when not using Chromecast, TV or things alike. One big switch on my powercord. The same goes for my router.

The problem only occurs when starting up my Chromecast from scratch. And by disconnecting the USB-C connector, waiting a few seconds for my hub to get an IP-address and reconnecting the USB-C to the Chromecast body (the workaround) in my original question). Ethernet works whitout any problem until I switch off the power again.

This behavior started after the new update this month.

Hi

Hello again, we haven’t seen your form submission come through - were you able to access it alright? Let us know if you’re running into trouble or still need our help.

Thanks, Daniel

Yesterday I tested the new OS version Android TV 12, build STTL.240812.006 (Dutch) the results are the same.
Still the connection only fails on system startup after the workaround (unplug USB-C and wait 10 seconds) everything works like it is supposed to.
As requested, I just submitted Case ID 5-2655000037535.

PS. The third party HUB I'm using is: "USB C Hub Multiport Adapter, 5-in-1 USB C Docking Station met 4K HDMI, RJ45 Ethernet, USB 3.0, 100W PD", brand: SZPACMATE which can be found on Amazon.
It had no problems on startup in the versions previous to OS version Android TV 12, build STTE.240615.007 (Dutch).
