Google assistant on Google 4k streamer

Hi,

I've recently bought a Google 4k streamer which I'm happy with however when ever I ask Google assistant a question it just says 'alright here are some videos' and takes me too YouTube. I don't want to watch a video I just want it to answer the question. I'm now going to have to move my mini speaker back into the living room when the assistant on the streamer should be able to do this.

Hi @Hrcuk1986,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that the Google Assistant is not working as expected on your Google TV streamer. I'm happy to help.

When you use the Voice Remote, you don't need to say "Hey Google" before you talk to Google Assistant.

  1. On the remote, press and hold the Google Assistant button to open the microphone.

  2. Ask a question or say a command.

Please confirm if you have set up your device as indicated in the article "Use Assistant on the Chromecast and Google TV Streamer Voice Remote."

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Anders

Yes I'm aware I don't need to say 'hey Google' when asking a question. My problem is that when using either my Google nest mini's or my Google hub I can ask it a question and it will tell me the answer but on my streamer it just shows me videos on YouTube that might answer my question without actually answering it.

Hi @Hrcuk1986,

Thank you for the update. This inconvenience could be because the Google Assistant isn't activated, or there's an error where voice verification through the Google Assistant has failed. This may occur even if it's already set up in the Google TV settings and the Google Home app.

Let's try removing and retraining Voice Match by following the steps below:

  1. Make sure that the mobile device or tablet is signed in or linked to the same account as the Google streaming device.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Voice Match.
  4. Find the streaming device and untick the checkbox next to it.
  5. Go back to Google Assistant > Personal results.
  6. Tap on the streaming device and turn on Personal results.

Keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Anders
