New Google TV Steamer does not support Deinterlacing. Due to this, deinterlacing does not work in videos! This is very sad.
I remember this problem was on the first Nvidia Shield 2019 firmware, but that was 5 years ago! Do Google developers really not know such basic things?
If the Google TV Streamer software developers are reading this, please add support for deinterlacing video.

Today the update arrived. Deinterlacing was not added! This is just unbelievable! I'm shocked!
Four months of waiting - all this way for nothing!

It seems that the selected deinterlacing mode is incorrect. The image appears as if it's being filtered using "discard" or "blend" methods rather than "Yadif 2x."

Hey all,
A fix was recently rolled out for the issues affecting some users when viewing interlaced content, however we are aware of the reports from folks still experiencing issues. If you're still having problems while viewing content that's interlaced, we would love additional details.
If you could leave a reply to this comment with the following information, it would be greatly appreciated. And if there are other details you think would be important for the team to know about your usage, feel free to include. Thank you in advance!
Please share as many specific details about the content you're trying to view, including:
- Type of content (specific titles is very helpful)
- What app or channel is the content on?
- What is the country of origin for the content?

I've tried to produce the issue on my Streamer to no avail, including some 1080i50 content that seems to be an issue for some. As an example, I tried to get VLC to replicate the behavior. I turned on content matching, and then did:
adb shell am start -n org.videolan.vlc/org.videolan.vlc.gui.video.VideoPlayerActivity -d "https://ia601204.us.archive.org/32/items/TheUltimateTestEnglishHD1080i50/The%20Ultimate%20Test%20-%2..."
Using my TV's HDMI diagnostics, it showed interlaced for a second or so, then went to progressive immediately.

Have you got HdHomeRun? Or Plex with some 1080i files? It's absolutely not fixed.

Shame on you Google!

Another day and this joke of this pathetic company continues
04-15-2025 05:22 AM
Ok, I think this is getting out of hand.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that Google is not going to release a new version everyday and every time that a new issue is resolved. You, and everyone else, will need to way for the next update, that from what I know, comes every 3 or so months.
Commenting "Google sucks", "Shame on you", "Pathetic company" will not accelerate the development of the fix. Your comments will only start to be less and less important.
Keeping the thread alive is good, but not this.
Yes the issue is taking to long to resolve, but to be fair, Google asked for users input and only 1 or 2 comments responded. Developers are not wizards you can magically know the fix just because it worked on the previous device.

Thank you for the post @Headbenga , well worded. Negativity does not help anyone , if feedback is to be valuable it needs to have specifics so that a cause can be found and a correction made. I agree that a fix is long overdue , but I also understand that during this same time there was a global outage for the 2nd gen Chromecast which understandably took priority of most of the Google dev team working on Chromecast. Every time I have asked for an update, I have got the same response from Google, which is , they need more specific details as requested above, and when I post that here I get only static. If a user can post specific examples of when the deinterlacing is happening, what device they are using (ie tuner make model), and what content they are watching, I am happy to escalate that back to Google, but as I personally don't have any issues with my streamer, as I don't generally use a tuner(I have one but in my area of North America most content is not interlaced) I cannot troubleshoot.

How do I feedback to you then? Sample video? I'm unsure.
04-15-2025 05:31 AM
Hahaha we are waititing for nearly a year and you are protecting Google? 😂
Google asked for users input, yes but I couldn't care less. They just should add deinterlacing as it was in Chromecast, no big deal. No users input is needed.
Shame on Google again.

I finally sold my Google TV streamer because of this deinterlacing issue.
So I bought the Nokia 8010 as a replacement. At first, everything worked fine – smooth playback, no issues.
Then I updated to Android TV 14... and guess what? The deinterlacing is gone again. Same issue.
Unbelievable what Google is doing here. It's clearly an Android TV 14 bug.
Looks like my next device will have to be an Apple TV or Fire TV.
At least they don’t break basic video playback with system updates.

Sad to hear that. Though you probably shouldn't have sold it first and tested the Nokia first.
Please fix this Google it's been forever.

Kinhank G1 media player. Was recently officially updated from certified Android 11 to Android 14. De-interlace problem now occurs since the update to 14.
05-06-2025 10:50 AM
Did today's update fix the interlace issue?
05-06-2025 10:56 AM
This is pathetic. Never buying Google crap again.
05-06-2025 10:56 AM
So today's update still didn't fix?
05-06-2025 12:02 PM
This may be fixed, at least for me? I'm not seeing any issues playing back OTA content through my HD HomeRun using the Channels app
05-06-2025 04:54 PM
For me this update doesn't fix the interlaced issue.
In Sparkle TV if I enable Tunneling Player this issue is noticeable. If disabled I don't notice the interlaced issue, but it was happened before this update.
Did you factory reset after the update?

I did factory reset after the update, but I didn't check before to see if it was addressed.

The de-interlacing problem has been solved in the new version, but now I have encountered a new problem. When playing some live channels, the normal 1080 resolution playback freezes after 2-3 seconds, while other 4K resolutions basically do not have this problem. Using VLC on this device also freezes or even freezes, but other devices with Android TV 12 do not have this problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Still not solved. Tennis or soccer is unwatchable, watching a ball with striations makes your eyes and brain crazy!
Just don't buy such a product! It's insane, we have been waiting for months now - I don't care about the reason, if it's Android 14 or whatever, Google is incapable to fix the issue.

Does anyone have a Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd generation) right now. Can you check if he has such a problem?
It also has the ATV14 operating system with a Google TV shell.

I have a Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd edition and it has the same problem with deinterlacing, although it behaves slightly differently. 1080i content on the Streamer plays at 25fps rather than deinterlacing to 50fps. The auto refresh works and adjust the screen to 25fps.
On the Xiaomi box 1080i content just plays at the device's native 60fps. No resolution change. Still looks rubbish though.
