Is Chromecast 2nd Gen still supported by Home app?

Last night I did a factory reset on my 2nd gen Chromecast, as I was in the process of changing my wifi system.

I can't set up the Chromecast now, as the Home app does not find it. The Chromecast is alive and waiting for setup. I've tried connecting my phone (pixel 😎 directly to the Chromecast's wifi, but that doesn't help. I went back to the original wifi system in the house, thinking there was some compatibility issue with the new stuff, but that didn't help.

Is this device no longer supported?

Chromecast (2nd gen) is still supported. Try these steps:

Good to know it's not been made obsolete, but still no luck with the Home app. I'm stuck in this endless loop where it asks over and over what I'm setting up, without finding anything.

My Android device is a new Pixel 8, and both the OS and the Home App are up to date. I turned off cellular data. Bluetooth is turned on.

I've tried this using my existing wifi router using both 2.4 and 5G bands. This is the same router that was originally used to configure the Chromecast, and no settings have changed on that side, so I don't think that's the issue. I've also tried with a new Nest Mesh Pro system that I just bought. Same behavior. Connecting directly to the Chromecast hotspot does not help. Everything in this chain has been reset/rebooted multiple times.

Is there some permission setting in this phone that could be blocking setup? Android is always removing permissions from infrequently-used apps, maybe it turned off something I need here?

Update: got it to work with a different android phone, so  probably some permissions issue on my phone? Beats me!
